Default Compression question

Recently i purchased a 347 stroker built by Ben Pilla in New Jersey(hell of a builder if i may add) and the engine is running a 10.1 C/R. Could i run boost without damaging the engine/block? I don't plan on running a whole lot of boost depending if i go turbo or s/c. But before i can even decide that, I wonder if its possible? I know when most people boost cars they run low C/rs for the boost to add the rest of the compression. With 10.1 is it possible for me to even begin to think about boost? thanks in advance!

You can run boost with 10:1 compression, just not as much on pump gas as the 8.5-9.0:1 guys. A supercharger or turbo is a pretty large investment to limit yourself right from the beginning because of your compression. I think nitrous would make much more sense in your situation.

i figured as much, i just don't like nitrous, seems much more dangerous then a s/c or turbo, i do have a dart 4bolt block that is able to hold that tho....hmmm

You have a Dart block currently? In that case, buy the blower, use cometic head gaskets, add some race gas and boost it to the moon.

Nitrous is not dangerous. The same people that hurt their motors with nitrous, will hurt their motors with superchargers, turbos or a nerf baseball bat. Hurt nitrous motors are a result of user error.

Yea, i already have the dart block for the bottom end of my 347 stroker, but i still want to keep this car running on the street, and race gas is WAY to expensive to run around on

Go with nitrous. This would eliminate the need for race gas with a superchager set-up. Nitrous loves compression.

My one freind originaly built a 408 Windsor motor with 8.0.1 compression to run alot of boost, but never got the chance to get a supercharger. He used an Old NOX Wet shot for kicks until he got the money for s supercharger. He went a 10.25 with a 100 shot. Than he changed his mind to Run higher compression and get a top-of-the-line nitrous kit. So he switched to 11.0.1 compression and used the same nitrous kit. He than went a 9.55 with the same shot. He gained 7 tenths just from changing the compression.

+1 FOR NITROUS!

How high of compression could i hold? i don't want to hurt this engine, its my baby and pride. I also couldn't afford to build another! lol

i would run the n2o if i was in your shoes

if you have the extra money i would buy an EMS so that you can save multiple tubes. for example......one tune that is for 93 octane running very, very low timing and a second tune for race gas with a much more agressive timing curve.

high compression + boost = meth injection is your friend
