Default blower?

can someone kinda explain to me what a blower actually is and does? is it better than a S/C or a turbo?

A "blower" is just a slang term. A supercharger "blows" the air into the engine...forced induction. Hence the slang term "blower."

It doesn't "blow" air into the engine. It forces air into the engine. the turbines in the supercharger compress the air beyond it's normal volume into a tube & the air has no choice but to go into the engine. get an 8 pound weight in a 1 inch cube and put it on your skin. (kind of the idea i guess) P.S.I.

pros and cons w/ the owners really, cons...they both get hot.

but yeah a blower is a supercharger. it spools up b4 the intake and packs the air in....a turbo runs off the exhaust and sucks the air out.

both get more air into the cylinders, both increase power.

turbos cost more.

i like juice. when i feel like spending the coin, i'll get a blower and squirt on it

Jesus Christ are you seriously going to be that ****? Should I actually get into the physics of how it works? He asked what blower was, I used a slang term to describe what it does while explaining the slang term he heard and used himself.

And your sentence doesnt make any sense. It doesn't blow air into an engine, it forces it in? Okay... if you say so. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go blow air into these balloons for a Halloween party.. Oh wait, I'm not "blowing" air into the balloon, I'm "forcing air into the baloon beyond it's normal volume." Didn't realize there was a difference....

ok so a blower shoves air into the engine and a turbo pulls the air out? if thats the case could u have both a blower and a turbo on ur car and have double the effect? sorry if that was a dumb question i just dont really get blowers. i understand turbo's though

^^^it doesn't sound like you do....to really get a good understanding read up on this and use google. most people...including myself...aren't going to write you out a great (keyword) explaination since it's technical and covered many times

Since we're get technical, the turbo and supercharger are more closely related than most think. A supercharger is, well, a supercharger while the term turbo is the shortened name for turbocharger, which is the shortened name for turbosupercharger. So basically they all do the same thing and the centrifugal SC and turbo are extremely similar with one running off of a belt and the latter using exhaust gases to spin the impeller.

turbo doesn't pull the air out... the exhaust gasses spin the exhaust side of the turbine. It's not pulling in any way it's resisting if anything.

turbo functions the same way as a centrifugal supercharger except for it's driven by your exhaust rather than the crank. They are more efficient

& a blower moves air. The name was given specifically to the roots type supercharger, but people started calling all 3 types a blower.

newb2000gt was right about them being related. turbocharger is just a name given to a supercharger driven off exhaust gasses. It's still classified as a supercharger.
