Help with nitrous system for 04 GT
Hey guys, this is my first post allthough I have been lurking for a little while. This is a GREAT forum by the way! I have learned alot.
Let me start off by saying I have done alot of searches on this subject and have learned alot. I am seriously considering putting a nitrous system on my 04 GT. Have narrowed it down to NOS, NX or Zex. So I go down to my local "speed shop" and ask the guy about it. He tells me the ONLY system he would put on my car would be the NOSzle direct port system. That's fine and dandy except the price tag! Come on, I thought nitrous was supposed to be affordable? Thoughts on this and what systems people have used on newer GT's with success would be appreciated.
Anyhow, I want some opinions on what system I should use. My research tells me I should go with a "wet" system. My next question is would I use a "universal" EFI type system? I fail to find any specific applications for the 4.6 except the NOS dry system or the NOSzle system. All the others seem to be a "one size fits all" wet EFI system. Am I missing something here? The web sites of all the mentioned brands don't seem to sum things up very well.
My next question is installation. How difficult is this? I have alot of mechanical ability and tools. The thing that concerns me the most is actually hooking into the motor itself.
Also there are alot of references to nitrous being very safe with a "proper tune" could somebody please enlighten me on what a "proper tune" consists of. From what I have learned the timing needs to be retarded and colder plugs must be used. What is the best way to back the timing off a little? Seems the biggest concern is pinging, I am at about 6000ft above sea level so this would be less of a problem for me. Also the best fuel that is readily available is 91 octane, only a handful of stations offer 93.
I'm thinking a 75 shot to start and would be more than happy with a 100. So if I back my timing off a few degrees and put in colder plugs will this effect my motor when it's not being juiced?
Thanks in advance.

for just a 75 or even 100 shot you can just run stock timing with 93 octane gas and 1 step colder plug. Run a wet kit (a dry kit would be a pain in the *** to get working right with your returnless fuel system that the newer stangs run). Just get a WOT switch and an rpm switch so you don't have to worry about fuel puddling in the intake. Bottle warmer & pressure gauge is a good idea to ensure bottle temp is up to get the most from your kit. If you can swap an alternator you can install a nitrous kit with directions. I'd got with NX and get their Gen2 upgrade - that should have you covered.
Thanks MD, I've been looking at exactly what you mentioned.
What type system are you using? Also what are you running now?
I really want a supercharger but will not be able to afford that for quite some time. REALLY wanted an 03 Cobra they had on the lot but the wife and I decided we did not want the extra $100 per month payment. Plus she wanted a convertible so we got the GT. After all I got the car by telling her it was hers
(When I'm not driving it that is!)

You'll want more after a few days with a 75 or 100 shot. My 75 shot lasted 1 hour and my 100 shot lasted 3 hours.[&:]
