Default we have a debate brewing...

so, i dont do chat rooms, but i stoppped by one titled import cars. this yahoo, a mustang owner actually, decides to argue with me about powerbands. he tells me that a non-turbo supra with nitrous will beat a supra with a large single turbo. i try to explain to him that the fastest supras in the world all use turbos. many of them dont even use nitrous to spool the turbo, due to the advancment in compressor technology. he was stubborn in the point that the effective power band in the bottled car would outdo the peak power of the turbo. now, for mustangs and/or supras, how could the nitrous car even hold a candle to the prolific power of the turbo?

Depending on how they're built, I say they can be made to run just about the same. I mean, Chris Little routinely turns 8.7s in his n2o fed coupe.

It would be close, although once a turbo gets over 15 - 20 psi or so of boost I don't see how any possible amount of nitrous could keep up.

thats what i was thinking. some o fthe bigger turbo cars run 30-40 psi, depending on fuel. there is a reason why the big draggers dont have turbos. maybe in a few years traction and saftey equip. will be better and nhra will allow turbos again.

I think that just ultimately... nitrous isn't comrpressed and although its got alot more 02 in it that regular air - it takes up space in itself so with enough boost you would get more air in than you could possibly put into a shot of juice. thats my opinion

For the supras, an NA on juice with the right supporting mods might be able to keep up, but all the built single turbo supras are so wicked fast that its very unlikey that an NA on squeeze would even come close to out performing a properly tuned turbo supra.

good to hear. i actually got upset that i got kicked out of the chatroom for trying to explain to this nut that he was wrong. his only defense was that his built up 5.0 ran 10.6 on the bottle, and my stock turbo'd wrx ran 12.9. he said this meant that nitrous was superior. my car with an exhaust and boost controller is no match for a built 5.0 on a 150+ shot.

n2o=no loss but drivetrain.
turbo does have some, even tho a tiny bit, it's still some.
You can't really compare the two tho, they both work differently
