Default Installing cat-back

I'm going to be getting a MagnaFlow cat back for my 04 GT and I was wondering how hard it would be to install this system myself? I have a friend that will help me.
It seems that installing the MagnaFlow cat back would be pretty straight forward, but what about removing the stock exhaust? I haven't had a chance to get under the car and see whats ahead of me, but will I have to cut the old exhaust off to get the over the axle pipe off?
Any tips on doing this?
Thanks!

its not really hard at all, you just have to get rough with the old system when taking it out, dont be afraid to use that sawzall the new system shouldnt be hard to fit in, just make sure there s a load on the suspension and fish it around the axles

So I would want the car on ramps rather than jack stands? I would think it would be easier to let the axle drop to get the pipe over it.

Troo dat homey.

You want the rear to hand so you can wiggle those pipes in there. SilverGTV8 usually posts some awesome install steps when he see's these threads.

Default RE: Installing cat-back

When I installed mine it only took a little under 2 hours. First thing is when I raised the car, I put the jack on the differential and jacked the car up high enough to get jackstands under some of the unibody supports, so that I could just let the axel hang. Then I used a sawzall to cut the stock exhaust behind the mufflers (in front of the axel). After pulling the rear of the exhaust out I unbolted what was left from the H pipe. Next I bolted the front section of the new exhaust into place. I then slipped the part shaped like a U over the axel and connected it to the front peice. Then I hung the exhaust with the stock hangers. Then I attached the rear part of the exhaust, and the tips hanging everything. After everything was hung, I ran my hands along the exhaust piping to make sure that it wasn't touching anything, and is far enough from everything that the exhaust wouldnt hit it if it jumped around. I then tightened up all of the connections and put the tips on. I adjusted the tips so that they were even.

After you install the exhaust drive it around a little bit, through alleys with ur windows down, and listen to see if u hear any leaks. After driving around take it back to your garage. Let the exhaust cool off, and check to make sure that the exhaust hasnt been leaking out of your connections. Also check that the pipes havent moved and arent touching anything. The exhaust will smell for a couple days as it gets broken in. The sound will change a little bit also, but enjoy it!

Hope I have been of some help
