dont really remember the roots but a twin screw is exactly that. looks like two screws intertwined together. they both spin towards each other creating a boost of air forced down into the engine when driven by a pulley. the twin screw are more efficient, make more horsepower and, make much less heat than the conventional roots style blower(due to the fact that the two screws never actually make contact/friction). the roots blowers are pretty much obsolete anymore if you are looking for the best types of forced induction for yer ride.

The main difference in the roots blowers vs twin screw blowers in the impeller design. The screw types use a helix design impeller system. As StangTang said, the hi helix type of impellor is more thermally efficient that that used in a roots style blower. It's efficiency allows for a fatter power curve over the roots. Yeah, roots products are ancient history, compared to the screw technology avalible. No one uses roots blowers anymore. -Except Roush, which, IMO, is really sad. Roush could easily go to a screw blower. They are getting a good deal on their roots products because the technology is old. -And that old tech is passed on to the consumer. It's all about $ for Roush.

Default Hrm ..

I agree with Birdieman. The "twin-screw" design's better than the "roots" style. I could've swore I read something in MM&FF about the MAIN difference between the two; That being, the twin-screw builds the pressure in it's casing while the roots blower pushes the air through, waiting on the burning process.. pretty much causing more heat, etc. I could be wrong, though. Twin-screws such as the KB's are awesome blowers. And the Saleen's too ( Birdie. )

Isnt the Eaton SC in the Cobra's a twin screw? I just remember Birdieman saying something about them heating up, or maybe its the other way around... in a thread a while back I remember it being mentioned, Birdieman could you clear that up for me?
