I want to convert my 83 GT to a true dual exhaust but I was told to get headers from at least an 86 GT?

 

your car is true dual.

taking stock headers off another car is a complete waste nevermind considering you will probly twist the header studs clean off if you try to take them off, thats how I ended up with new headers.

 

its just easier to buy new headers and they flow better too

 

Well, didn't some years have one hump on the ranny crossmember so they aren't true duals? Why do I think I remember seeing that somewhere? Your stock headers should be fine, but if I'm right, you'll need a new tranny crossmember.

 

yea I think pre-86 has a y pipe, defintately need an h-pipe and double hump member (heh, I said member.. )... dunno about manifolds though

 

yep you need the cross member and if your going to do it dump those restrictive headers

 

Yeah its a Y pipe. I already purchased the dual hump cross member for $25.

Also on the processes of buying some headers(shorties). Although I'm bidding on Ceramic LT's...
