Default Cheap twin screw thread. UPDATE: question....

I'm looking to supercharge my car, but do it without spending too much. I had the Vortech kit for $1500, but had to sell it to fix my exhaust. I'm exploring other options. Anyone know about these things:

They don't make it anymore, but I'm sure there's a dealer out there that's had one lying around for years and I can haggle the price.

its a piece man... you can get a new vortech kit for 2600 or so, and it will take you alot further. That unit works, but it has heat problems, and terrible power band and a max boost of like 8 lbs i think, maybe 10 if you ported it

Well, here's my thinking. I need this car for a few more years and if I can get away with supercharging it and reaching my HP goal without sacrificing the life of the engine, I'll do it. I like the twin screws because yeah, they may only make 60 extra HP at 6 lbs of boost, but that 60 extra HP will be attained at around 2000 rpm. That's plenty for a street car. That is why I'm leaning away from the centris.

But this thing has heating problems? What do you mean? And the 8 lbs of boost isn't a limiting factor for me, really. It'll do for the next 5 years I think But are you saying it's just not worth getting at all?

its really not man, because for the same price you could get the vortech. I know all these debates make people wonder on both sides, but trust me trust me trust me on this, you will be much happier with v2 vortech, and if you do decide it will take you 600 rwhp (give or take 50 rwhp dependin on motor mods). I mean i know we make a big deal about these small performace differences, but like our freind said in the other thread, the differences are alll that great, but they do exsist. The real determination for most people is price, the vortech wins this one easily you dont even have to be intercooled, you could run 350 or rwhp and beat it all day and not have to worry about it (nothing is ever "safe")

Ok, but getting a Vortech still leaves me with the lag problem. Any suggestions on fixing that?

there's no way to get a twin screw torque curve out of a centri.... you just have to get a twin screw.. but not all twin screws are created equally ....KB is what you would need to put that smile on your face.. and unfortunetly there is no way to really cheap your way into one of those unless you can fine someone who is selling a used kit.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. And for the price of a new KB, I could get a pretty good 03/04 cobra motor.
