Default boost controller problems

my boost controller is hooked up on the intake side of the tb. It then splices off to the bpv so that they're both running off the same reference source. my problem is that the boost will comeon to about 12psi and then creep up to 18psi (where its set to) but it will do it differently in every gear. is it because wehre the reference line is from? or do i have a crappy boost controller or wat? also the boost controller is extrmemly sensitive, like a 1/16th turn will change the boost 8psi, and the wastegate is stock with a 7psi spring. this is a t3 turbo on a 2.3

or am i just being stupid and the thing is just bulding boost slow? its strange because before i swapped the motor the thing would pin 20lbs almost instantly liek at 3 grand and now it wont hit it until like 4500-5000

well any small engine will take a while to spool a big turbo up but i think something is off. id startwith the bov, check the plumbing to your boost controller. and if that checks out, there may be a small boost leak, or a wastegate problem. hope i helped

I prefer the electronic versions, I have a Pro Spec B by GReddy. I would do what floodzilla said and recheck all connections, check for pinched lines or leaking lines.

I almost learned the hard way the other day when I changed my fuel filter. I pinched a vaccum line which caused my turbo to spool really fast and too much. I usually ran 9.5 psi and it would shoot to 13+ and smoke the tires. I had to disassemble the fuel filter stuff and remount the vaccum lines. Problem solved.

Check and recheck everything. Go slow and mark what you check.

could it be that my vacuum lines are just too small? im running 5/32 and it seemed really small. isnt stock like 7/32? I understand that it will build boost slowly, but what happens is it sorta like stops at 12psi, and then climbs to 18. idk ill check everything, eventually im gonna buy A PRO SPEC B LIKE simon has.

whereare your boost controllers referenced from? are you guys after the throttle body or like right at the turbo housing?

i have my controller referenced a little bit after the turbo, that way i know what my turbo is really making. i think your right, your vacuum line is way too small. id swap it out and see if it makes a difference.

I don't know what size my lines are. My PSI is measured in the intake manifold and the waste gate is controled with a spring and the controler. When my boost gcontroler reads 9.5 psi, that's 9.5 psi at the motor, in the intake manifold. I don't care what the turbo makes. I'm more concerned with what the PSI is at my motor, flowing across my MAF.

This is normal with turbos. You have to remember that turbos do not build power off of RPMs. they build it off of load from the motor. Load is going to be the hot gases running out of your manifold and into your turbo. IF you have really tall gears like I do, I have 4.10s, you probably won't even build full boost in first gear. 2nd 3rd and 4th no problem but the short the gears are in the car, the earlier the turbo will spool in the RPM band. This is why most trubo cars are not 4.10 (example) geared cars. They run a shorter gear which gives them a longer power band. It seems odd but a if you take the same turbo'd car and do comparisons between a 3.55 and a 4.10 rear end, the 3.55 will come out on top usually there are exceptions ofcourse.

My car will only overboostin 5th. The reason is the tranny ratio in my 5 speed of .62 compared to 4th gear which is I think a 1.1 ratio..

The "creeping" you describe can usually be controled witht he electronic controlers. I'm not familiar with the manuals.

i know what you mean, i kinda misprinted it, its about 1/2 inbetween the manifold and turbo. i just dont wanto risk blowing the turbo.
