Default Vortech aftercooler question

Everyone talks about Lethal Performance, so checked their prices for the Vortech SC. This SC seems to be the most DD friendly and a very reputable company.

I'm a little confused about the difference b/t the aftercooler version and the non-aftercooler version. They both make the same amount of HP(420) and torque(385)?? What's the reason for the extra cost? ($3768 vs. $4843) Does the aftercooler give the SC more potential for future mods/HP increase?

Your guys' input is always appreciated.

420 hp needs to be intercooled. 360 is about as far as you should go non intercooled. The aftercooler is air to water, air to air is more reliable and has better power numbers in a dd application, but you can ice down an aftercooler and get sick numbers, but it wont last long.

Why does the SC need to be intercooled at higher HP? Is 360HP the highest recommended by Vortech for non-intercooled?
Thanks.

the cooler the intake charge the better, allows for more timing and thus more power that is if you don't want your block sprayed all over the highway! [8D]

well vortech recommends a cooler for 330+ i think, but 360 is ok, you can run more w/o a cooler with headwork and such.. but generally 350 or under doesnt need it and over does

Thanks for the info guys. Seems the noncooled version of the Vortech SC isn't worth the money. Doesn't seem like you get much bang for the buck. 330 hp isn't a whole hell of a lot considering you'd probably pay close to 5 grand for the SC + install.
Also, seems like false advertising since the ad claims 420hp with the non-aftercooled version.

not enough bang for the buck! a few simple bolt ons, which we all do, got me 368hp and 375tq non intercooled. sounds like a good bang for my buck. another $1500 (aftercooler this spring) will put me over 400 hp/tq. or if you wanted to go an inexpensive route, methanol injection. where you get no bang for the buck is all hype over bolt ons.

you could also try water/methanol injection.

spend the extra cash and get the intercooled kit, it'll be more reliable and it'll suck if u have to spend the extra money on the block if something happens
