When will my turbo spool?
So I just bought a Garrett gt4088 turbo for my car and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about when i would get to like 8 psi.
The car is a completely stock 89 5.0. Turbo specs are below.

Did you do research to match the turbo to your car? You cant go buying random turbos and sticking them on your car.

The guy I bought it from had it ona galant vr4 and he made full boost around 3600 rpm's so I don't think I will be that bad.

It will work for now as I plan to go a lot bigger with the motor in the future and need a bigger turbo for that.

What jlw2387 said, if it came off a galant it probably isn't a proper turbo for your application...a .81 A/R housing will normally require a very high rpm to spool up, one that a built vr4 can handle, which will probably be around redline for your car...So you would most likely never see full boost with that turbo, mayby not even half of what you want. I believe most turbo mustangs will use like a .48 a/r

stfu... really
what mm is it again? just to be sure
So im guessing your talking the 76mm.. in which case .84 is right on the money - you should see full boost by 3200 or less, maybe even 2600-2800, depends on how well your piping flows. Im gonna guess youll be able to get 700 rwhp+ out of it. Generally for single turbos 57mm-88mm .96 and lower is termed to be "quicker spooling" you dont want anything lower than say .6XXX . for twins you could use .5 or so with smaller turbos (46mm-62mm). IMO a well picked single is a better way to go - more power, better performance, cheaper and more reliable. In your case youll be wanting to get a built motor (again I dont know which one you bought 57-88mm) if its 76m or higher, Im thinking around 4-6 psi will probly max your motor out - again depending on how well your piping flows and your pressure drop is with an intercooler
I dont need some webiste link, .48 is just a stupid thing to say for a single turbo... I didnt have to read the rest

you can take the covers off and measure the wheels at the inducer and the exducer and that would help some. looking at the map if that is the is right I think it will be OK for your 302 with some room to grow keep the boost down though or you may lose a block.what is the AR on the turbine side and what is it on the compressor side if the .81 is on the exhaust that should be OK. But then I dont know everything there is about turbos.
