Default Header Details - 94 GT

So I had my 94 GT hooked up with a new exhaust system last summer that included an H pipe and mufflers from Summit. I also had the cats removed, for obvious reasons.

Now it's time to throw some headers in there, but I'm a little new to the do it yourself stuff.

My question is, whats the difference between the different type of headers? Long, shorty, equal length, chrome, ceramic etc.

Also, is there a difference in the brands and do I need to find something compatable with my system?

Well, considering you already did your H-pipe, you'll need to go with a shorty style header rather then a long tube. If you go the long tube route you will have to replace the H-pipe again with one that is compatible with the long tube headers. Equal length means each tube of the header is the same length and the exhaust will travel the same distance from each cylinder to the collector. There is a power gain by going equal length, though not a huge one. Equal lengths are generally a little harder to install then unequals because they are bulkier. Chrome headers are mainly for the look. The chrome provides a nice shiny finish but usually fades or turns colors over time. Ceramic provides not quite as shiny of a finish when compared to chrome but it looks nice and won't fade over time. The ceramic also hold the heat in better and help to keep it out of the engine bay.

Awesome. Are shorties a pain to install? Cause if not I'll just do it myself.

I put in my equal length shorties last fall. Overall, it wasn't toooo bad. Had a few pains here and there but over all wasn't bad. Passenger side you need to remove your airbox, maf, intake tube, egr, smog pipes and tubes, tec. to get access to it. Drivers side I had to remove my master cylinder and then bend the AC line out of the way to slide the header down in. You can also loosen the motor mounts on the engine and jack it up as needed to gain more clearance.
