Default Cold Air Intakes

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and excited to be here! I am in the marked for a new cold air intake system for my 05 mustang GT. My question is, which are some of the best cai systems and what is the difference between a system that requires a custom tune and one that doesnt? <--- Like I said, very new here!

Plus, which do you have?

thanks

To my understanding if you CAI does not need a tune, it will not perform as well as one that does, i.e. because it will not flow as much air as the ones that need a tune. but both of them will build some more power because it should be getting colder air, and colder air is more thicker and makes more power.

I would spend the money and get a good kit, one that comes with a tuner, I like the one from Steeda, Ford Racing also makes a good one, C&L and JLT also make good ones and the people i know with any of them, love them. well worth the money.

Welcome to mf's. I bought a BBK cai. Had it for 4 months, then bought a supercharger that wouldn't work with the cai. If I could go back in time, I would've never bought the cai to begin with.

When I bought the cai, I also installed a bbk/roush 70mm tb and a accufab plenum. I didn't notice any improvement with them.

I think with the OP's car being an 05 a CAI will require a tune. I could have sworn I read that with the newer stangs they are more sensitive. Pre-05 your good without.

Welcome to the forum.

Systems don't dont require a tune will have the lowest gains, even if you do a custom tune later on. Those systems are not increasing airflow substancially enough for large horsepower gains.

You will have plenty of choices out there including ours. Ours gets excellent gains and was trusted by both Shelby in their production Shelby GT's and by Ford and is endorsed by SCT as well. If you want to check ours out you can see our cold air/tuner combo here: http://www.steeda.com/products/steed...n_pak_s197.php

+1. It doesnt require a tune but will run a little crappy until it gets tuned to take full advantage of the cai. Don't quote me though, this is just what ive read on the s197 forums.
