Procharger vs. vortech s/c
Was looking into superchargers and wanted to know what makes a procharger different from a vortech?
I was poking around on youtube today and noticed that a few guys with prochargers seemed to have blo-off valves on them but i have never heard that on a vortech. One guy even said that infact he did have something basicly the same as a bov but said it was called something else, i cant seem to remember.
is one harder to maintain than the other?
Thanks.

Once owned a Vortech V2 S/C on my 93 Vette and it was unbelievable. This was before the now "intercooled" versions that are out now and I was able to pull 4.3 sec. 0-60 mpg and do 12.3 in the 1/4 mile. I am debating right now with which way to go myself, turbo or S/C. I really like the Saleen twin screw but love the whine of the pro-charger. I dunno, decisions, decisions......
The main difference is prochargers have the oil reservoir on the head unit and most vortech blowers tap into the oil pan for its oil supply. Vortech does sell some blowers with an internal oil reservoir now. Both are great products and imo all preference. Vortech tends to be a little cheaper . Procharger kits bring an intercooler ,while some vortech kits dont require the use of one(you could fab up an ebay intercooler kit for very cheap). Other than that both are reliable blowers, and the reason im going with vortech is because its cheaper to part together my own kit and its usually easier to find vortech parts on ebay/craiglist/forums.
check out the V3 it has its own oil supply and the thing you refer to is a release valve. you hear it but just barley. it is a sleeper. you can run it without the IC and upgrade later. check out the brenspeed site. 3799 for a great tuner package with many upgrades. I have it and love it.
All blowers have a bypass valve. Neither of the two are better than the other. You just need to decide if you want to tap into your oil pan or not. I had a procharger becasue it was self contained and came with an intercooler. The intercooler doesn't matter on a base kit up to 10 lbs of boost but if your plans are for high boost then you need the cooler.

exactly. id go with the vortech just for the money savings. if you want an intercooler, you can easily put together your own setup from parts on ebay for under $400. im not a fan of the head units that hold there own oil. seems like it would get really hot and break down fast. the fresh oil from the motor will help with some of the heat
