Default Propane/NOS

Hi guys.
First time posting in this section. Im running a edelbrock plate system on my 5.0 in a 65 mustang (pictured below). I have the system completely installed but am not going to run it until I take it to be properly tuned for the shot. starting with a 50 shot but will have a 100. I talked with an old race guy that was reccomending that I run propane as a stand alone system. Seems like it would be simple to do instead of running a T off my gas line now. Also it would help a lot with octane since I live in cali and can only pump 91.

I guess my question is how would you regulate the pressure coming off the propane bottle? And do I use the same fuel selenoid even though it will now be running gas through it? What are your thoughts and does anybody have any experience with this?

Thank you,

Dan

i dont understand how that would work, isnt the point of NOS to cool your air down coming in,is propane cold to, i would be worried about the propane exploding if theres a leak

no, nitrous does more then just cool the air. it cools the air but the main reason for nitrous is it makes fuel burn faster/hotter and allows you to run more fuel through the motor which makes more power.

i have never heard of anyone using propane as an octane booster. youd be much better off running a stand alone meth tank thatll spray methanol into the motor instead of just regular fuel. even that is over kill. your talking about a tiny little 100shot of nitrous. 91 octane will be more then enough, just pull a couple degrees of timing and youll be fine. even with a 200 shot 91 octane is fine, its all in the tune. your making a mountain out of a mole hill. and not sure where in california you are, but there are a couple stations in my area that sell as high as 105octane at the pump

Diesel guys run propane injection, I have never seen it used on a gas engine. Sometimes those old race guys really know a thing or two, other times age has gotten the best of them.

Yeah - thats a diesel thing. Old tricks are fine - but imagine how much money companies spend researching the products they sell you these days. Get a kit they work.

Propane won't work on a gas engine. Thats a diesel trick.

you don't need a tune on a 5.0 w/ nitrous

by that i mean you don't need a chip or anything. just pull a degree out for evey 50 hp worth of smack

i use stock plugs gapped at .042 for 80-100 shot and 89-91 octane depending on if it's hot or nice and cool

if it's over 85* and i'm going to the track... i'll top off w/ 94 but when i just happen to be on the street and catch a race... i'll squirt 12-14* of timing on 89 octane w/ my 80 jets. never had a problem and i have been on a dry kit for over 10 years now
