Default need help picking exhaust

i've got an '83 mustang that is completely stock. i plan on converting it to dual exhaust really soon(the '83 came stock with single exhaust, even on the v8's) but don't have a lot of money to spend on an exhaust system. i hope to spend around $800. what i've been looking at getting is BBK long tube headers with the BBK catted shorty h-pipe and SLP loudmouth resonators.

do you think that is a decent setup? if not what do you suggest that is in my price range?

I think that's a pretty good setup that you'll be happy with, both BBK and SLP make good stuff; but you might look into doing the LM2 resonators instead of LM1's. The only problem I see is smog inspection; unless you have a "friend" I'm pretty sure those longtubes won't fly here in CA.

on american muscle it says that the long tubes are smog legal if you also have the catted shorty h-pipe. and i've been trying to pick between the lm1's and the lm2's and the main reason why i like the lm1's is they are $50 cheaper.

I have not found a long tube header that will be smog legal in cali. I am going to have to look into this and see.

i'll do some more research, but based off of what it says at americanmuscle.com the bbk long tube headers with the bbk catted shorty h-pipe is legal.

heres the headers and the h-pipe i've been looking at.

youll need to get a printout of the carb inspection sticker or something legal showing the carb number on it. then just keep it in the car with your registration and wont have to worry about it

do you think its worth getting long tube headers right now? i don't plan on doing any major HP upgrades in the near future, but i would like to do some eventually.
