I currently run a ProCharger D-1SC making 13lbs of boost. Let me tell you what to expect from any blower you choose. MPG goes out the window immediately. I don't care who tunes it or how much you think you wont be in the boost forget about MPG. I'm running 60# injectors I see about 8 MPG in the city maybe 14 on the highway.

Long tube headers bottom out frequently and bring an unnecessary amount of heat into the cabin. The kind of heat you can dry your clothes with. Sometimes my gear shifter gets so hot I have to use a shop rag to hold and shift. The only way to stop this heat is to run the A/C.

Once you get over these obstacles you'll need to prepare for belt slippage issues. If you're running a little tight on cash and cutting it close don't bother getting a blower. A 6-rib blower is only going to have issues with the belt. Trust me, its just a matter of time. You can granny shift all you want but as soon as you get into a few times that belt will start dancing all around under that hood so you'd like to have at least an 8-rib belt.

Don't forget gauges, you'll need those, upgrade your brake calipers and pads if you can. Whatever you get make sure it has an intercooler. Be careful, enjoy the summer, save your money for gas.

P.S. A little Nitrous never hurt.

well it will be a daily driver (not so much in winter though)

and after much research im leaning towards the vortech for its reputation and its price. I want the v3 to not have to tap the engine oil.

however, i am stuck between the v3 and the high output v3 (include a cooler)

they are rated at 104 hp increase and a 142 hp increase respectfully...but the high output version comes in at 1100$ more expensive. Is it worth the 1100 to have the piece of mind of a cooler and a little more power?

no its not worth 1100,your better off getting a front mount intercooler for $300 and installing that.

are you going to install this yourself or pay someone, tapping the oil pan isnt hard at all as long as you get the right tools and take your time, the whole installation is alot easier than people expect,i installed almost everything on my car by looking online and taking my time, if i knew how to tune my car i would do that too, dont be scared to do it yourself, if you have the time it can be done over the weekend without rushing around.

I dont trust myself to do a job like this, so I would take it to a shop. I was quoted this:

$800 to install the blower, new fuel pump, new injectors, and $450 more to custom tune with a handheld tuner (my diablo tuner used)

is this a good price? Its from speed inc (a shop near the NW side of chicago)

You will lose fuel economy with a centrifugal. The air is compressed internally, even at lower rpm it's still compressing air in the scroll before it's diffused which means there is a constant drag on the belt resulting in lower fuel economy.

Most use a roots because they're cheap, give good low-mid range power as well as some up top, they're the most reliable, & of all the superchargers (turbo included) they effect fuel economy the least. Roots superchargers don't compress air internally; they move air past it at a faster rate than the engine can consume it so it builds pressure in the intake. That's why they're called blowers. Because of that you can use a bypass valve to equalize the pressure making the rotors freewheel so it doesn't rob power from the engine while the valve is open (ie cruising) so fuel economy stays nearly the same as n/a. The twin screw & centrifugal (including turbo) compress air internally so they can't freewheel even if a bypass is used so the only good side to a bypass on those are less heat produced from a pressurized intake & less wear on parts. (or in a turbo the impeller will keep momentum longer)

Personally I prefer the feel of positive displacement superchargers over centrifugal & turbo, but I also prefer being the faster person in a race. Positive displacement cars will feel faster to the person driving & the passenger even though it will be the slower of the two.

not to bad of a price, you should read up a little because like i said before its easy to install, and after you do it , it feels great to know you can work on your own car. Its all bolt on stuff, the hardest thing for me was changing the pulleys.I was the same way before i started mine, thinking it was going to be very difficult and once you read the directions a couple times its simple. Also if you decide on intercooling and going higher hp, your going to need a new mass air sensor, and a AIT relocator. But thats why you should look into knowing your car more so you dont need to keep taking it somewhere to have little things done, just a thought

looks like everything is there, but i didnt find a list of what it comes with, but when i had mine custom tuned i was told i needed a 90 mm maf, and when i do that i needed the ait sensor relocator. The kit i got didnt need that stuff with the tune from vortech but with the custom one it did, i also put a intercooler on so the stock maf wasnt good enough

its comes with all the mounting hardware
larger fuel pump
larger fuel injectors
intercooler
compressor bypass valve
supercharger pulley

it claims it is all you need to setup and go...i was not aware i would need to get a larger mass air sensor
