Bolt ons vs S/C
Hey i was just wondering if anyone with a 99-04 gt has done bolt ons that give you about another 100 hp at the rw and what they were and how much they cost including any tuning if necessary. Also if anyone has put just a supercharger on how much boost they are running with stock components and what kind of extra horsepower they are getting as well as how much their system cost with tuning and everything. Well thanks in advance, i'm just trying to figure out what makes the most sense for me to do. I'm not looking to take it to the track or anything just give it a bit more power for the street.

gonna take heads, cam and intake, all ported too , to make 100 hp NA.
cheapest way is to spray it, and the the most streetable way too.
next easiest is a blower, then the top end.
Stock internals can definitly handle 12 psi intercooled which is what I run in my daily driver. Maybe more but I'd rather not find out the hard way.
Supercharger is the cheapest way to go. You would need every available bolt-on with agressive cams and some high revving springs, possibly give up power steering, go to an electric waterpump... Even then, I don't know if it's possible.

its all about compression you do 1 or the other...
if you go N/A you will get more HP, but the compression will defintly go up faster per HP then you would if you superchargered or Turboed.
compression to compression, Supercharging and turbo defintly beats out N/A

thanks for the info everyone. it definitely sounds like supercharging is the way to go. from what i understand turbo is quite a bit more expensive than even that. nitrous seems to be the cheaper way to get the extra power but i would really prefer something that is always on.
StangTangGT: do you know how much the powerdyne was for your 89? how much boost are you running?
FallStar01: what supercharger do you have? did you get the whole kit? do you have an auto or stick? do you have any issues with it?
it seems that for the 02 the superchargers are a bit more expensive than other years. maybe its just me. i was looking at a vortech but wasnt particularly keen about putting a hole in my oil pan. kenne bell seems to have a lot of online info for expected hp/trq ratings. but also seems to be the most expensive. procharger seems to be relatively cheap but also may need a little more maintenance than the other systems.

Procharger for you is gonna be the best bet, lots of people will recommend vortech as well, and I have owned a vortech too, but intercooled you can run a higher boost with just 91 octane. And the procharger will be a little bit more maintenance, but it will be worth it. Thats the route I am going next on another mustang. I am switching mine to a twin turbo setup. Oh and sorry powerdyne is the cheapest but only for foxbodys.
Kenne Bell at 6psi for $3799 or Intercooled 9 psi for $4899 is the way to go. The reason I say this is because they have very complete kits and you really don't need to do any tuning. Also, Kenne Bell have more low end power which may not make a difference on the drag strip but will make a difference on the highway. (If for example, you were in 5th gear and wanted to accellerate from 30-50 or even 50-70 it would be much faster with the KB).
That being said, Vortec kits have gone up above the 400rwhp with some tweaking and boltons but you'll need to get a power pipe and aftercooler. The Vortech might be a good purchase if you have a dyno tuner and plan to keep upgrading it as you go along. It's certainly a cheaper up-front cost. I wouldn't worry about tapping the oil-pan because honestly, that just means that you don't need to ever change the supercharger oil (using the same as engine).
Procharger and paxton are good companies that make a quality product as well. I just don't personally know anyone making big numbers with them however, there are some good examples in magazines.
Thanks FallStar and StangTang. Sounds like either the Procharger or the Kenne Bell. Just gonna do some more research. Both of them seem to have good and bad points. May just come down to what happens to be in my wallet at the time i'm ready to buy. Since we are experiencing the coldest weather on record in cleveland at the moment its probably not happening for a couple months yet. Wish I was in Florida :-)
