slightly over 2000RPM in 5th gear going 70 with 3.73s. i'd like 4.10s, which would put me at about 2250 or so at 70. i have a 5 speed 04.

I think I might go with the 4:10s but I dont know what I will get for gas after that! this is my daly driver so I need somewhat good mpg. what other parts should I look at doing if I am taking the time to change the gears?

here's a nice comparison for you. i can get up to 24MPG on the highway with my 3.73 and my supercharger. if i had 4.10s, i'd probably be down to about 23MPG on the highway.

here is the dilemma....

people will tell you to get 3.73's or 3.55's for the gas mileage and that your still getting a great improvement in gear.

although thats true...it's not like your gonna still knock down 20 mpg on the freeway w/ 3.55's

it's directly proportional to the gear, how much mileage you lose, and how much stronger your car will run.

to give you an idea, my buddy had his 5-speed notch and went 3.73..on 26" et streets he said it was weak. and needed more.

i used 4.10's on my '89 and have them for my '93 notch.
my '89 went 13.60's...100% BONESTOCK w/ 4.10's and et streets.
the next spring it went 13.20's by deleting AC and smog, and adding LT's and flowmaster catback.
on the 100 shot NOS 5115 kit jetted at 75 , it went 12.50's
not too bad for a bonestock motor.

w/ 4.10's expect about 18 mpg on the freeway and you'll tach about 3000 @75-80 mph
in the city , you could (but probably won't) gain mpg...as you can get into higher gears more often.

i used to go through the traps at about 5200 rpms which is about perfect.

Everyone has been talking about what happens to the 5 speed with different gears, but my question is how would adding a 6 speed to a stang affect acceleration, etc. and what ballpark ($) would you be looking at to get a 6 speed put in? Also (kinda a newbie question) would going to 4.1's lower your top speeddramatically compared to stock (not in a drag racing sense but just top speed period)?

you can get everything you need to change your mustang to a 6 speed from www.summitracing.com. It will end up being about $2000-$3000 plus install. I was also looking a doing the 6 speed but with 4:30 gear. thats 1 of my 2 dreams for my mustang (the other dream has to do with a 5.4 turbo).
