Default Nitrous Question

I am looking at doing a direct port nitrous system in my 97 GT to get some extra power. I would like to know what "Goodies" I will need to get the most out of it without messing anything up.

unless you are going over a 150 shot, direct port is not needed.

direct port is not nessary like code said, but i believe that it will be safer, more expensive also. You should get a bottle warmer so you can keep the system at the right psi, and a window switch. The window switch will activate the nitrous when you are at a certain preselected rpm range.

where does the nitrous shot go into the engine if you dont use direct port? I wanted direct port because I wanted to not have to drill holes in my engine.

wet sprays fuel with the nitrous, dry relies on the injectors to provide the extra fuel needed.

w/ a direct port kit you DO have to drill and tap holes in your engine.

1 nozzle per cylinder

there are plate kits, that sandwich between your upper and lower intake, also plate kit (but technically not a plate kit) that sandwiches between your tb and intake

all plate kits are wet. (the nitrous spray together w/ the extra fuel)

then there are nozzle kits, all dry kits and some wet kits are nozzle type kits. (dry means only nitrous flows through the nozzle and intake and the fuel is gained by spiking fuel pressure)

they tap into the intake tract (usually into the tb) and squirt through the intake manifold.

typically a plate kit is a 200+ application ($700+)
a direct port kit is like 350-1000 hp ($1000+)
a typical low level kit 75-125 hp is gonna be a nozzle kit, wet or dry is your personal preferance. the general concensus is that a wet kit is more consistent , but at the sacrifice of spraying fuel into and through your intake....which it's not designed to do.

a backfire on a wetkit (caused by fuel puddling) can blow your intake off.

that will never happen w/ a dry kit, but it's not typical w/ a wet kit either....but it happens.
and things happen w/ all nitrous kits...just not very often at all, it's one of the safest ways to add huge power to your car, for the lowest amount of time and money.
