Default Help

Hi...I just joined the website, and I was looking for some help.

Im no a car savvy person at all, which is why I came here.

I have a 5-speed 2000 v6 mustang...its pretty darn sexy, probably not as much as most of yours but hey, whatever works?

I was looking to get a new exhaust, new cool air intake, possible a chip or a fuel injector... The only problem is that I dont
full understand how any of these work, or how one is diffferent from the next, or which of these I really need or what...if
someone could point me in the right direction that would be great, Im looking for low cost, but efficient, so thank you very
much in advance.

Well your new intake allows the engine to breathe better. And the exhaust allows the engine to exhale air better. Just think of it like a human, the better you can breathe and exhale the faster you can run. The fuel injectors wouldn't do anything to your car, but a chip or tuner may be able to help you a bit.

What he said...

Performance wise, a cold air intake won't do much for you, so I wouldnt recommend it unless you just want something cool to show off under the hood. If you want to pick up a horsepower or two, get yourself a K&N air filter. It would cost about 50 bucks and most parts stores carry them in stock.

Exhaust is a great first mod. A free-er flowing exhaust will net you a nice performance gain for the money and will definitely change the sound of your car for the better.

A chip will give you get you an ok gain for the money, but I would I would still recommend changing some exhaust components first...

And injectors won't do anything for you at this point.

whats the difference between a chip and a tuner? Whats a good price for one that would be for my car, and how much HP gain am I looking at after getting a good exhaust/cool air intake? And after that, how much of a gain with a chip or the 50 dollar thing you were talking about? Also, where should i look at getting these parts? Are there any websites online you can point me to?

a chip you get a tune put on and that's what you get. have have to take it back in to get it retuned. a tuner does just that. lets you tune your car like a chip does, but you can change things whenever you want. like if you get gears or somethin, just plug in and tune it and you're done instead of having to go get your chip reburned.

If your looking for cheap power for a quick fix then do in this respective order: Exhaust, gears, tuner/chip, cold air intake, Nitrous. Simple easy and very efficient.

In all honesty you need to check out the V6 section of this forum. I personally don't know to much about the V6 performance and what applications are best. If you head into that section everyone in there has V6's and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

All in all I have found gears to be the best bang for the buck in the early stages of mods I'd go with 3.73's. Definately feel it better in your seat. Also you may want to slide in an 8.8 rear at the same time for the possibility of future mods.

Well if he is going to change out the rear end go with the 9". No point of not going all the way.
