Default O/R X-pipes

Alright, another stupid question...can you tell the difference between Off-road X-pipes and the catted x-pipes? What is the difference?

off road has no cats, better air flow. it'll give you 1 or 2 extra ponies over a highflow catted X.

So if i buy the Magnaflow Catback system (http://mustangtuning.com/maca94gt.html) and want no cats I buy the O/R X-pipe(http://mustangtuning.com/x.html) Correct? Sorry, I am a big noob with exhauts, I just love the sound and know the companies.

Correct. Catback and Midpipe are different parts if that's what you are asking. However you don't have to buy that expensive SLP X pipe if you don't want to. I wouldnt really recommend that unless you want to swap their high-flow cats on there from time to time. Or if you are getting Longtube Headers soon and don't want to buy another pipe. You could get another O/R X pipe for half the price of that one...

Another noobie here...

1. So the only benefit of an no-cats (O/R) instead of high flow cats is about 1-2hp?
2. Am I correct in saying x-pipes are used to simply equalize pressure between the two sides?
3. If so, what is the true benefit of this?
4. Do people run Cats with an x-pipe or is that counterproductive?

Still a newbie... but learning more everyday...

Hope you don't mind the grilling!

1. Yea the difference between high-flow cats and O/R is only gonna be 1 or 2 hp at the most. And that isnt the only benefit, O/R pipes are louder, and less expensive.
2. Pretty much.
3. By letting the exhaust gasses between the 2 banks intermingle, you make more power and torque by balancing pressure differences.
4. Catted aftermarket midpipes all come with high-flow cats which are a lot less restictive than the stock cats. So no it is definite a lot better to have high-flow aftermarket cats than the stock restrictive cats.

Gotcha... so you for instance, currently you have an SLP Loudmouth Catback system but are looking to add an H/X pipe, right?

1. Will the H/X-pipe replace your Cats or does the H/X pipe come before the Cats?

Please pardon my **** questions... I'm just really interested in learning about this and it's hard to find people (or a shop) that will give you a straight answer.

Thanks again,
