Coilover Questions
Hello is anyone running coilover suspension and if so what do you think? I am looking at getting coilover suspension and want to know which kit to buy and what everyones opinions are. The reason I want coilover suspension is I plan on using my car for SCCA and some Drag racing.
Well I guess that no one is running coilovers? Well no biggie for me I guess that my car will be one of the first on here. I have decided on KW suspension and it is the double adjustable kit.
I'm not running coilovers, mainly becasue of the hassles of adjustment, but also cost.
The real benefit of coilovers is that you can change your ride height when you want to--to dial into different conditions, for example. The problem is that this isn't as easy as it seems. Various things are affected by your ride height adjustment. So, after you get your height where you want it, you have to go back and "clean up"--set all the other stuff back to where it should be. This includes camber and possibly steering alignment in the front, as well as axle offset and pinion angle in the rear. So it's a multi-hour ordeal (perhaps involving an alignment shop) every time you want to make a change. That's not convenient at all, especially for a very minor "tweak" benefit.
I would much rather set my ride height were I want it and then leave it there. You can do that by selecting the proper spring kit from the get go, and save a ton of $$$ in the process.
The Toicko D-spec shocks offer adjustable damping, and they are very convenient to adjust. all 4 in less than 5 minutes, no special tools required, and no crawling around on the ground. That's my choice--it has all the adjustment I need.

That doesnt sound that bad never really though of the allignment problems. Right now cost isnt a problem just trying to choose the best for all around is the hard part. My goal is to build a car that is equally at home at the drag strip as it is on the road course. So if I had adjustable shocks it wouldnt be that bad. Thanks for the info
