Default Front End Shake

Hey everyone. I have a 2006 GT 5 spd. No mods as of yet. I have been having an issue with the steering wheel shaking. I have had the tires balanced twice now, and to no avail, still shakes. It is especially noticeable when the tires are cold. It somewhat goes away when they get warmed up, but the shake is still there. Was wondering what your opinions were on this dilemma?

Thanks,
Ray

first guess of course would be wheel balance. Could be a tie rod/rack issue or a wheel bearing - but the car is way too new for that.

What speeds are you having the vibration at?

Most tire places do a ****ty job of balaancing. They "ballpark" the weights. It took me till the third time to get mine right. I demanded that they do it MY way - whatever it might cost.

I grew up in the tire business and this is a common problem I dealt with many times(I changed and balancethousands of tires in my youth). It couldbe an out of round tire or bent rim. Have the front tires balance again and if possible watch the tires spin on the balancer (or tell to tire man to watch) to see ifa tire is out ofroundor ifa rim is bent. Also watch how much weight each rim/tire is taking. If a rim/tire combination takes a lot of weight, it could be indicative of a problem. Also make sure the tires zero out on the balancer. I wouldalso try a different tire store to do the re-balance as not all balancers and tire men are equal. If the tiresare round, the rims are straight and they are not taking to much weight, the next thing I would do is balance the rear tires and rotate them to the front. Ifall this fails, the next thingI would do is have the car aligned. If the car is out of alignment you could get a vibration and if there are any issues with premature suspension part failure an alignment this would identify them.

Let's us know if any of this helps.

Good Luck!

I am taking the car in tomorrow or saturday to have it put on the alignment rack. Hopefully it is something as simple as an alignment. I do live and drive on some pretty rough roads. Someone else had told me it might be an alignment issue.

All this information has helped... time will only tell..

Thanks.

I had an issue with my 19's when I got them. The tire place finally referred me to their sister store that had a Road Force balancer. This worked great. Of course I still get a little bit of shake if the car sits for more than a day in sub 50 degree weather.
