why do you ask?? If you are looking for DR's find 2 used17" rimsand use those to race, that is my plan. 18" DR's are very expensive.

I am just curious because I am doing a power adder soon and I wanted some wider tires. For driving around also. If I can't get big enough I will have to change rims I guess? I dont really want to change rims.

18 X 8.5 255/45/18, if you want to run wider tireson the rear, like 275/40/18's, you should really go to 9 inch wide rims. 275's will fit but it is not recomended, tire performance will be imparied.

Ok, so what's the rundown on wheels for the GTs? 1) Standard GT package is the painted "bullit" wheels, 17 x 8.5? 2) Next is the chrome bullit wheels at what size? 3) Then there's the polished aluminum ones that are 18? 4) Then there's the wide "fan" shaped spokes in ?(aluminum? chrome?)at what size? Can you give me some insight as to sizes and commonly referred to names (like Magnum 500s)?

I'm asking these questions because I'm shopping for a GT convertible online and most of the cars I'm seeing have the #3 choice above. I prefer the #1 choice above. Can I swap them out without recalibrating the speedo, etc?

Thanks!

thewheelman:

If you plus size tires properly the outside diameter never changes, so you should never need to recalibrate your speedo unless you change the gearing.

The 18's I am riding on are 18 X 8.5's with 255/45/18's (see pic) The stock tire size on the 18 X 8.5's is 235/50/18, on 17X 8's it is 235/55/17. The rules for plus tire sizing are if the tread with goes up the profile goes down. If the rim diameter goes up the profile goes down. Tire diameter always stays the same (withing 2%)
