Default drags size

i am getting a pair drag radials. i have 2 stock gt rims 17 by 8. i am getting some nittos (i think)? i am going for 275/45/17. i tried summitracing and they don't have that size. so who else might have them at a good price? or should i get a different size(what size)? i will only put them on when i go to the track and take them off when i come back. tell me whatkind and size drags you guys have, to help with my choice....thanks

Be careful going with any tire diameter shorter than stock. You do not want to have to shift to 4th gear unless you have 4.10's or a lot more power than stock.

I highly recommend the Mickey Thompson 3743 26 x 17 x 11.5 bias-ply DOT slicks.
They are much stickier and better track tires than any drag radial. They are about 180 a piece at Summit.
I pull consistent 1.6 short times with just these tires and 100% stock suspension. They are about 3/4" shorter than stock tire height and willrealtively lower your gear ratio because of that. I am still in fourth when I hit the traps at about 118-119 MPH
Heat em and they will really grab reallywell.

what ever tires i get will have to fit on stock 05 gt rims (17 by 8) so i think those M/T will not work.

I have a set of those ET Streets that fit just fine on two extra factory 17x8" wheels--it's my second set of these tires and I love 'em. I cut 1.7s all day long, get away with a few 1.6s from time to time, and had a best 60ft of 1.59 back in the spring. While they are starting to wear down a bit I still use the same set after 60+ runs. Given the size of the wheel, you don't have too much choice other than a drag radial in 275/40-17... If you move up to 17x9" wheels you'll be able to fit some of the newer 275/50s (M&H)and 295/45s (MT)out there, although they are TALLER than stock and only useful for higher horsepower cars and folks with 4.10s (more rolling resistance/distance and all that). When I get up to about 350 at the wheels I may spring for two17x9" wheels and try one of those taller tires out, but for now, the Mickey Thompson ET Streets are really your best bet if you are able to change them at the track. Don't drive too long distance on them as they wear quickly--I discovered that the hard way $$.

If you have to drive to the track then I'd recommend Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials in 275/40-17s. My son cuts 1.7s with these on his '87 Mustang and could even drive them in the rain if he took it easy. I've heard that the Nittos give better street performance, wearwell but don't quite hook as well as the ET Street Radial, but I don't have first hand experience with the Nittos--it's just something I've heard.

By the way, don't be surprised if you can't find the MT ET Street Radial in 275/40-17 in stock right now. There seems to be a national back order that will be fulfilled mid-November, but ET Streets are easy to find.

If you go to Tirerack.com here: http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/..._tire_tote.jspyou can buy pair of wheel/tire totes that can be used to put your tires in the car and keep the upholstery clean. You will have to fit one tire in the back seat and the other in the passenger seat (folded down). I've never tried the trunk as it's pretty tight fit, although that's where I've put my jack and jack stands. I assume you'll have someplace safe to store the street tires at the track as you certainly don't want that weight in the car going down the quarter mile.

Good luck and have fun.
