Default Vibration/shimmey in front end

Hi all,

A friend of mine recently purchased a new 2007 Mustang GT convertible. It has 1400 miles on the odometer. Problem is a vibration in the front end. He had taken it to the dealer and they determined three of the four tires were not within tolerance and replaced them all. He still has some vibration and now a steering wheel shimmy (not sure if that problem was there originally.) This car has the stock 17" wheels and Pirelli tires. Tires have all been balanced -- I'm not sure on what equipment. Anyone have any ideas on what to check?

Thanks

Find a shop that has a road force balancer and have them try it.

With stock tires I could not even tell you what could be the problem. I know with aftermarket tires I had to remove the retainer (washer, I guess) installed on all corner to eliminate the vibration on the front end.

yeah you got it, like a big washer, but in my defense I had the tires balanced first and the shop that did the balance didn't notice them either

I know that in my case, removing them eliminated the vibration. I later placed the stocks back on and I still have no vibration, so that's what I would recommend Blackbeauty do...remove them washers...

It needs the tires balanced... again. I thought I had a real problem when my steering wheel started to shimmy and continued to do it after having the tires balanced. It took a trip to the dealer and a second balancing to get it right.

on not too smooth roads, I find I have the smallest of steering wheel shimmeys, but on a smooth well paved road, there is none. are you sure your not overreacting to road imperfections, you feel every one with this car, perhaps moreso for me since I got 18" tires on it. like I said though, smooth road = no shimmey

if its a big shimmey though, then thats not it. I know whenever I get a new car, I;m frikkin neurotic about every little noise rattle squeek, and I tend to overreact to little things
