tires for stock 17's
You shouldn't need steering stops with a 275/40/18 tire. There are lots of people on here with that size and there is no rubbing.
The smaller diameter tire of going with a 275/40/18 will be like turing your 3.55s into 3.73s so that will give you a little more kick in the pants, that and the whipple, ha ha.

Actually I would run a 275/45/18 which is 27.7" tall. So it is about 1/2 " taller than stock. I am and plan on staying at the stock ride height. That is another lesson I learned from my last stang. Lowerd looks great and handles great but is a real pain on a DD. I hated being afraid of driveways and speed bumps.
The slightly larger tire will give me a little less gearing overall, but the supercharger should make up for it.
Thanks for the info on not needing the stops. I just figured all the people that staggered sizes and all there might be an issue there.
EDIT - sorry I didnt explain my reason behind the larger tire very well. I think that the slightly larger tire will better fill the wheel wells better at stock height.

i think i might wait till my stockers ware and get some 18/10's or 18/9.5's in the rear and 18/8.5's in the front....then will i be able to buy DR or slicks for my stock rims? that might be better than buying DR's with a set of rims when i could just use the stock ones.
I've got the stock Pirelli's and have only made a little over a dozen passes at the strip so they're lasting a little while. That and my driving is highway. I figure they'll last a few more months since I put about 1500 miles a month on the car. When the stock tires wear out I'll get 2 more rims and DR for the strip and probably something that will last a while for going to work. Thinking about it I don't think the Falkens I had even got 25k before they were shot.
