KONI Recall?
Oh yeah, any of the ones you order going forward will have been fixed. Koni actually stopped selling them briefly until they got all the recalled ones taken care of. I was trying to order a set during that time, and couldn't figure it out, until one of the resellers eventually told me of the problem (a couple days before it was made public, so I was sworn to secrecy)...
I currently have a set on order. I spoke to a Koni rep last week and was told that I would have to wait no longer than 2 months to get the fronts. It's been about 3 weeks since I ordered them.
The Koni rep that contacted my was really great. I received my replacements 2 days after he called. They were switched last Wednesday and the damages ones are on their way back to Koni. It was a good call. I did have missing welds.
What's sad is that not everyone knew of the problem. As soon as I found out, I proactively called all my customers who had bought them, and stopped selling them even before Koni told me to do so. I think it's good service, and could not have lived with myself if I had pretended to not know in the meantime. Sadly, not all vendors did the same... I truly do think you get what you pay for.
Koni worked with me and my customer, who's car was involved in the discovery, closely to remedy things as quickly as possible. I have taken orders for "new" Koni's so they will ship immediately upon arrival.
I wish I could have been the vendor everyone dealt with, because I did my best to do the dirty work with Koni. I also think I have more to offer advice wise. Might not be the cheapest guy on the block, but I also think I have better info than most. And when the crap flies, like happened here I got right in the middle of it for my customers.
Rest assured that any Koni bought from me will be right. There was NOT an actual Recall. Koni proactively took steps, but didn't recall them. There could well be struts out there that aren't right. Last I heard, not all sets were accounted for. Mine all were.
