G Tech Pro RR
Has anyone got any experience with the G Tech Pro RR?
Here is a review from Car & Driver;

and here is G Tech's web site;

If it works as well as described it seems to offer great value for $299.

Well on a road course, you won't be able to tell exactly how many G's you are pulling, because the accelerometer is calibrated to operate on flat ground, so when you hit hills/camber changes, the accelerometer is tricked into thinking you are pulling more/less G's. However, you could use it as just a general reference as to how hard you took a turn in a previous run and where you gained or lost time in a second lap. Another feature which would be great for road racing is the shift light. You can set it to blink in stages at different rpms so that you wont have to watch your tach. It is a pretty accurate tool for measuring straight line acceleration though if you are on flat ground. I think if you are doing an autocross, it should be pretty accurate since you are usually in big flat parking lots with very small elevation change and no on or off camber turns. I dont know if that helps any, but just ask more questions if you have them.

As most of the tracks we will be running track days on are pretty flat then it sounds like the G Tech Pro will do a pretty good job of providing actual as well as relative values if we make changes to the car.
The shift light feature also sounds useful as I am finding that dropping my line of sight down to the tach to watch for the shift and then back to the road is a nuisance.

I'd recommend what I use for a data-logging.... A MaxQData. Simple, easy to use, gives maps, accurate speeds and G figures since it uses GPS data to generate data.

I use the MQGPS unit. If you have a pocket PDA, the cost isn't bad. Even if you don't and have to get something to run it, it's a way, way more powerful tool.

Really interesting!
A little more expensive as I would then need to geta pocket PCorlaptopto get the best use of it at the track but probably worth the extra money.

Yeah I don't know if I would want a laptop running in my car while on a handling course unless there is someone in the passenger seat to hold it. However, a good clip would probably hold a PDA from flying around.
