Default new 19's with tires??

picked up a new set of Dan Gurney edition saleen rims they are 19x9 w/ 30mm offset and 19x10 w/ 50mm offset.

Question is what tire will be the best for daily driving duties in spring/summer/fall that won't break the bank.
I will be lowering the rear with the roush springs and adj. panhard link.
I was looking at Kumho ecsta SPT in these sizes
255/35/19
285/35/19

anyone have experience with those and how will that setup look? thanks

I have used kumho ecsta supra's before but never the SPT's. Arent those classified under drifting tires?? Personally I would recommend you getting the BF Goodwrench g-Force T/A KDW They have the exact same sizing as what your looking for.

Here's the general description. I like the BFG's but they are almost double the price.

I just got a set of those wheels, too. I'm going with the Kuhmo SPT's. I'm getting 285/35 rear and 275/35 front. I think 255/35's in the front would be a bit too short. I put the SPT's on my son's WRX and they work fine. Did your wheels come with center caps? If not where are you getting them, cause mine didn't?

anybobody with 19's is gonna feel it in the bank...the important thing is to get a tire width that matches your wheel width. slightly bigger tire is better b/c it protects the rim against curb rash

I think that 255/35 will look a little small on the front with some extra gap to the wheel opening, as it is 1" shorter than your 285/35 rear tires. Why not 255/40-19, same 27" diameter as your 285/35's and also available in SPT's?

The wheel sizes are certainly OK. The GT500 puts 255-width tires on 9.5" (you're half an inch narrower, no big deal and a tiny bit more rim protection). The GT500 also puts the 285-width tires on 9.5" (but that's the minimum width and at half an inch wider you're actually better off from the tire's point of view).

The only thing that concerns me at all is the 30 mm offset for the front wheels - 30 mm is more of a 1994-2004 wheel offset and may look like the fronts are sticking out a little extra compared to the rears. I think the difference is only a little more than 1/4" at the outside flanges, but I don't know how the fender contours will make it look.

65soch i called saleen and they said they were the same centers as the new saleen 20's. so i ordered them though their website. here it is for the chrome centers

as far as a front 255/40/19 i thought that keeping the same aspect ratio would be better?? i want the tires to look the same size, but b/c of the rear being 10's i was told to get a smaller front since the rear will actually be shorter on the wider rim

I would get the 275 front but don't want the steering wheel to "wander" on the road, or is that not a problem with the new stang?

First off, I'll give them credit for understanding that tire OD does vary with rim width. But I also have to say that they are either over-estimating this effect or over-selling it to their customers.

I doubt that you'd ever notice how much taller or shorter any tire gets when mounted rims of various widths. Yes, it does vary a tiny bit - about 0.1" per inch of wheel width change, and you have to base this variability on the tires' actual measuring widths.

285/35-19, 26.9" OD on 10" wheel, in your case there is no correction for wheel width

255/40-19, 27" on a 9" wheel, no correction (you'll never see this 0.1" since the wheels are 107" apart, might hardly even see it with the wheels standing side by side)

255/35-19, 26" on a 9" wheel, no correction

Now if you were planning on 285/35's on 11", you'd expect to have 26.8" OD. Still not enough difference to be concerned about.

It is very common to match 285 rear tires with 255 front tires having a 5 higher profile. Same with 275 and 245, and 225 with 205, to mention a couple others.

The 'wander' is also sometimes called 'tramlining', especially in areas with street car tracks. Yes it exists on the new S197s and gets worse the wider the front tires get. I note on mine where the roads are rutted due to heavy truck use. Making sure you have the toe in set to factory specs helps.

As my car is set up for road course use as well as a DD I just live with it.

I run 275's up front and feel the tramlining too. I love the wider front wheels for track duty, though, so I just suck it up. In all honesty, it really isn't that bothersome IMO.
