Cool Handling made simple

I don't put my car on a race track, a V-6,,you gotta be kidding.
I don't want to ruin the ride with race type suspension.
I do want It to track and handle like a Sports car should.

I put these tires on It:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....lus+Technology

20,000 miles now with ONE rotation,
perfect even level tread wear across the tire.
33 psi In all 4
Car Is driven daily, 75% Superslab at 75 mph
The Other 25% Is good old stop and go and boulevards.
The Computer MPG average Is right now at 27.5 MPG
During the hot Florida summer with the A/C cranking,,26.2 MPG
(When I check mpg the old fasion way I always get 1 mpg less than the cars computer)
Due to the 500 mile average of the computer I guess......

I can scare just about any fool who tries to follow me through a fast set
of turns.
Leading a tail hugger Into a sweeping off ramp Is a blast. I love to watch
them bob and weave as they struggle to maintain control while
my Mustang tracks a smooth arc,,,,,

My Car Likes smooth trail braking and On power apex and roll out.

These tires are great In the rain and have a very reasonable resistance to Hi-Speed hydroplaning,
Tracking at speed with cross winds Is a non Issue,
Temprature on a hot tire must be very good as PSI seems to climb only 2 Lbs when I push the tires,
Acceptably smooth on small bumps and ripples, IMO as good as any good tire I have ever had,

Tread depth at 20,000 miles Indicates a 4/32" depth will be reached at about 120,000 miles,,,
If I don't lead to many more Beemers and Camaro's Into my cornering trap XD

I ALWAYS replace tires at a tread depth of 4/32" NO LESS.
Tires are cheap, my Mustang to me Is a one of a kind.

The autocrosser's mantra seems to be "driver, tires/wheels, everything else", and it seems that osco has the first two covered at least to his own satisfaction. When it's good enough for you, it's OK to stop modding.

The S197 even in its most basic form is better than an awful lot of drivers, no matter what they happen to be driving when you encounter them.

osco - must be all those highway miles of yours, to get you 20,000 miles per 100 treadwear down to 4/32".

The Tirerack says the tires are 600 ware rating, no wonder they last that long.

Nice poem. I would love that kind of gas milage. Mine is horrible at this point. Erik

Yup dead on Norm, all three points.
Tire wear,,for us, It's not just the 75% superslab, Its how we drive it.
Perfect PSI,
Absolute smoothness,
really slowing down for the ramps,(Other than my occasional play rides)...
A real secret for the NASCAR wannabe's,, STOP tailgating, back off,,alot......
Stop letting your pride get hurt If some one gets In front of you.

We find ourselves coasting along quite often while everyone else Is crammin and jammin,
hitting the brakes and RE-Accelerating, over and over and over.

Thats how we get the MPG numbers,,Remember those numbers do Include
25% city traffic..

I find It very funny when someone just has to get In front of my Stang.
They waste all that fuel and I catch them at the next light XD

I reserve those performance accelerations and W.O.T.'s for roads where
I can actually enjoy the car.

Cool

BTW peoples,,

Be nice to the new Camaro's, don't sucker them Into a fast sweeper
or switchback. Your gonna get somebody hurt.

The New Camaro handles like a pig and It's hard to see out of.
I tried to be nice to the salesman on the test drive but he knew I was
not happy with the handling.

I made him real nervous when I checked the tires with my digital guage
before we took the car out....

This car feels nose heavy, suffers from a wallowing when using brakes and throttle
to snap an apex.
The Camaro NEEDS better suspension and needs to go on a diet.
