Im buying a set of aftermarket Gt500 rims and want to know if I can get my TPS sensors from my stock rims put on the new ones. Or what is the better route to go in this case of the new rims not having the sensors? Any feedback as always, is welcomed.

 

You can put the stock ones on the new rims, not the funest thing to do tho. Will save you the trouble of syncing them.

Some go without any sensors and just ignore the dash warning about them. Have read of someone going with no sensors and some how clearing the warning but it was also said it's not possible so not sure about that.

Thanks guys. Ya I just priced them and its almost $200 for the kit on AM. My buddy has a tire machine and we can pull the tires off my stock rims when it comes time to put them on. How hard it is to pull the tps and valve sensor? Any knowledge?

 

I kept my stock sensors and i think thats the best choice. Anyone who buys the rims and needs sensors, has sensors on their current rims that they can also reuse.

make sure to use a high quality machine so you dont damagte the rims

 

Since you have an 07, you have the "banded" sensors, which over time can rust, since they are wrapped around the inside of the rim. I'd suggest upgrading to the valve stem ones, which you can find (if you look long enough) for about $60/set

There is a trick you can do to if you decide to run without the sensors. Get a piece of PVC pipe and 2 caps. Seal one end of the tube with one of the caps. With the other cap, drill a hole big enough to screw in a standard valve stem or bicycle valve stem.
Put the sensors in the tube. Seal off the other end of the tube, then fill the tube with air to the same pressure as your tires. Stick it under your drivers seat...it's close enough to still read the sensors.
The only problem with this method is that you will have to use the sensors that are currently sync'd to the car, but it does work.

 

That is ingenuity right there sir haha. I like the idea of having my stock rims as a back up just in case, but that $200 price tag doesnt sit to well. I still have to get tires for the rims, which Ill end up buying at a later date. Im buying all 4 rims for $50. So Im saving a ton of money. Thanks for the advice guys!

 

Question to old thread. Will 255/40 18 fit on the 18x9.5 rims

 

255/45 is what you'd want to use. The diameter is 1" less than original with 255/40.

Rim width range for 255/45 18 is 8-9.5"

 

They'll fit, the tires will just stretch a lot.
