Default Tire size options? NTO GT Rims

I know there's tons of tire threads here, but finding exactly what I'm looking for is like looking for a needle in a stack of needles.

So I picked op a set of NOS 05-09 GT Bullits with no rubber. My plan is to lower the ride about 1.5. I want a beefy tire on them, nothing that sticks out of the wheel well, but some nice wide tires that give it that Bad *** look.

So what are some good options?

Those wheels are most likely 8.5" wide (measured inside the flanges where the tire beads seat). Unless you're willing to look at SUV and light truck tires, that 8.5" limits your tire size to 255/xx, so you're looking at 255/45-18 or 255/50-17 depending on what the wheel diameter is. If they're only 8" wide, stop at 245's. Pinching a too-wide tire down to fit actually looks wrong (because it is wrong).

Start by going to TireRack.com and searching for tires in those sizes and go from there. Pay attention to the range of wheel widths for the sizes that you may be interested in (found under the 'Specs' tab for each tire). Also, give greater weight to Tire Rack's own comparative test results and commentary than to consumer ratings and reviews.

They are 17x8. I went to Discount tire and they showed me some options today. I want to say it was the 255/50/17s; several options. I have a list of things to do, I'll be getting Duels, rear bumper dress up, lowering. I've had the car since Christmas 09 and it has 44k on. Research shows its one of 80 built with said specs and I have the sticker.

Thanks Norm,

IIRC, 255/50 always was the most common up-size for factory-width 17's. Might even ride a little better than the 235/55 that was the OE tire
