Default Tires?

Apologies if this is another rebirth of a tired thread... anyway, I have an 06 V6 coupe. I was one of the lucky ones to get in on the Mustang Monthly deal (even before GT_takeoff.com) on 4 brand new GT wheels and tires (paid $299, they were guaranteed to have less than 6 miles on the rubber). Anyway, I've had them on since buying the car... I know, an 06 with the original rubber? I telecommuted for many years so it gets driven now more than ever. Anyway! I was looking at my tires and they are dry rot cracking and I'm thinking I should replace them. Well, as my username suggests, I also have a 66 Fastback with some original Magnum 500's with Firestone Firehawk raised white letter tires (did he really say RAISED white letter???). I love the retro look. Well, I called Firestone and the guy looked all around and said those rims only take a certain size tire, and nothing is available in raised white letter. Dammit! I'd love to match my newer girl to my older girl.... anyone else figure out what to do? Do I really only have a couple of options for new rubber? I love the 5 spoke look, reminds me of the Cragar SS - like look. I'd really hate to have to change up my rims, those are SO Mustang, if you will. Suggestions?

There is a company, tredwear.com I think. It sells a decal you can use to get the RWL look.

It looks interesting, do they last? Not much for feedback on that site....

What size wheels do you have on your car? Width as well as diameter.

More than one tire size can legitimately be fitted to just about any wheel size, which might open up a few options for you here. Off the top of my head, the 17x8 wheels that were used for a number of S197 years will take a 255/50-17 tire, or if you're OK with very slightly shorter tires, 245/50-17 could work as well (with maybe a 1 psi upward adjustment).

I believe they are 17 inch 225's. Maybe I'll start calling around, had hopes of getting the same tires on my 06 as my 66 though. The world won't stop if that doesn't happen, but I'd like some raised white letter tires if possible. I'm not sure those decals from tredwear will last though. there isn't any feedback that I can see, and if one letter decides to fling off, then they will look silly.
Thanks Norm, I'll do some more digging.

You might look into Coker Tires.

I sent Coker Tires an email. Their website only lists tires up to 2002 though...
