special shelby computer?
still trying to decide between a used 07 gt500 w/ 2100 miles or putting a whipple HO in my SGT. i was leaning towards the whipple in mine, i called All Mustang Performance today and asked what they would charge for the whipple and Mike explained to me that the shelby has its own computer, much like a Roush, and that you cannot upload a new tune to it. Its a "locked" computer from what was explained to me. so along with the cost of the whipple, labor, i would need a 07 mustang gt computer as well. i am starting to wonder if its worth it now. i need anyones advice or help on this matter. i am really thinking about either that used 07 for 41k or a 09 gt and customize the heck out of it. Thanks again, as i know people on here will help.
haven't heard that before.if that were the case, I'd hope brenspeed would've informed me ofit before I bought their sc kit.the instructions they sent with the tuner says to go right to "custom tune", so I don't believe the stock tune has to be reloaded first.
maybeyour tuner'sthinking shelby installedtheir owncustom tune, as tuners will often lock-in their tuneso that others can't screw it up (or steal it), allowingonly the stock tune to be reloaded. I don't think that's the case with the canned frpp tune that we currently have.

i dont know. the way he explained that they already did a shelby gt, and ran into the problem of trying to load the tune out that procal tool because shelbys tune is locked. its got me frustrated, i was hoping to have the car with a whipple in it friday by 5pm. grrr
that 500 would leave me broke for a couple months, no modding in that time. but good news, the insurence will only go up 21 a month with the 500. it would auctually be cheaper than the sgt+lightning.

couple more questions:
1. from info gathered on here, im thinking a spec 2 clutch is the way to go with a whipple?
2. with a center guage pod, where do the wires run, (2 aeroforce intercepter im thinking, plus a boots guage), you dont drill through the dashboard do you?? i hope not
3. does anyone have a pro 5.0 shifter? that noisy, rattley (<-real word?) hurst has got to go
4. what hood would look good on that sgt? its a pita to restripe it, as the hood scoop is going to be a problem with removal and repaint. would the CS6 hood fit i wonder?
thanks for the clairification on the tuning TJ

The CS6 hood will work. Quite a few SGT owners have switched to it.
Just spoke to Seth at Brenspeed; apparently, with the SCT tuner (which they send with their tuneloaded in it), there's no need to go back to the OEM tune before loading the new one.If that's the case witha canned tune (or rathercustom canned tune), I can't imagine a dyno tuner would have any problems. Maybe they should use a SCT tuner?

funtimes,
There is a difference in the SGT tune. Basicly , from what I understand they use the procal chip flash that comes with the FRPP power package. But you are able to use either a SCT or a Diablosport to re-tune it. Mine came with a Diablosport, but my tuner only used SCT so I had to purchase the SCT. He had no issues tuning the car, once we figured out the fuel pump problem. That being said any decent tuner should be able to tune the Whipple for you after it is installed.
You also mention about the Hurst rattle noise. Mine had the same issue and I did some research on the shelby forum at shelby's website and found out I could have it replaced with an updated shifter from hurst under warranty. If you have any play when you pull up and down on the shifter about 1/4 inch you can get it replaced. The new shifter comes with with new bushings, as opposed to the factory bushing they use from shelby, and they add a full size washer where the bolt goes through the shifter, compared to a half size washer they used at shelby. Some dealerships may not be aware of how to do this, but they need to contact Shelby's warranty company, PG Cambell (I think), tell them about the play issue, and they send a new one out. The only problem I had with the new one is the shifter **** looks cheep compared to the original, so I told them to reuse my shifter handle and ball, and they did. Since the replacement I have no more rattle, or noise of any sorts, and no more play up and down.
As for either supercharge your SGT or buy the GT 500 here's my thoughts. Having supercharged mine and having over 470 RWHP, I still want more. After a few weeks you get used to it and want more. My problem is that the stock bottom end can handle at most 500 RWHP safely. So I'm pretty much mazed out on power. If I want to go higher power i need to do the bottom end, heads, replace the trans with a TKO conversion, clutch, headers, and any other nickel and dime parts. Now the GT500 comes with anywhere between 420 to 450 RWHP depending on how lucky you get. But the difference is the bottom end on the 5.4 can handle way more power. You can do a intake, new heat exchanger, tune and gain close to 100hp. If you want serious power you can upgrade to a KB and the bottom end will hold up with no problem. If i hadn't gotten a killer deal on the SGT I would have bought the GT500 first. But with that said knowing what I know now, if i could go back I would have just spent the extra got the GT500, for it's awesome power potential.
