Default CAI Install on GT500

Hi all ! I am considering installing a CAI on my GT500 - I have been looking at the Ford Racing CAI kit and the JLT kit - has anyone had expereince with one or the other ? If so, I would love to hear your comments, both as to the install and increased performance.

I am by no means a great mechanic, but I can do all the basics and have installed an exhaust and short throw shifter in my garage with no difficulty. That said, the install looks easy, but I have never changed a tune and am wondering if there is any danger of really messing something up or if it is relatively "idiot proof" - from what I can gather, the tune change is a "plug and play" type operation, no?

Any insights would be appreciated!

thanks in advance

Marc

I have a JLT (older one, mid 2007). No issues, works fine but the tube is somewhat fragile.
I assume you know that you will need to flash a tune to the car. The JLT flows so much air that it could cause a lean condition or Check Engine Light. I'm not sure about the Ford one as far as a tune.

It's the same deal as all real CAI's and the mustang gt.

I don't personally ahve any experience with a gt500, but if you have installed a STS and Exhaust then you willl be fine with a CAI and Tune.
JLT makes great products, I HIGHLY recomend them!

Default thanks!

thanks to both of you for the replies ... I figured the tune would be pretty simple to do - now I just have to decide on a CAI kit. I admit the JLT looks great and has some rave reviews, but I am concerned that the carbon fiber may be a little fragile

The Ford CAI requires a tune also. Its a modest but safe tune. Needs to be provided by FRPP after install by your ford dealer. Dealer may or may not void warranty. Check with the dealer first.

If you go with the aftermarket CAI, I'm able to do it and I have no mechanical aptitude at all. Can be removed for dealer warranty work.

The big advantage is not so much the extra HP, but the improved throttle response.
I have the Steeda/SCT package on my GT and have had no issues.

Cheers.

when you get a hand held programmer, the new tune that you'll get with it to load for the mods will go into the car's computer and in-turn the car's stock tune will be loaded and stored into the hand held programmer. you can always reload the stock tune back into the car, just remember that you'll also have to swap all the mods that the tune is for....if you don't, your car might throw a code
