Shelby 5.4L Versus Roush supercharged 5.0L
I'd love to have a Shelby too, but by my calculations at MRSP. we're probably talking a MINIMUM of $12K + sales tax extra comparing a base model GT 500 to GT 5.0L 6 speed with a Roush Supercharger installed! The Shelby will hold its value better, but you've got another $13K+ invested in the car! I think it will actually be more because dealers are more likely to deal on a 5.0L than a Shelby! In my area they act like they are doing you a huge favor to sell you a Shelby without adding $5K extra market up! On top of that, they load the Shelbys with all kinds of bells & whistles I don't even want... driving the price even higher. The car in my signature "as it sits there complete" was half as much as a Shelby in 08!
you won't find many who support the GT over a GT500 in the Shelby section.
i'm a die hard GT guy, and i honestly admit the GT500 is better, any way you want to look at it.
I believe the GT500 is a superior car stock vs stock, and easily upgradable to higher HP, and is able to handle those upgrades better.
engine, tranny, suspension, clutch, brakes, blower, etc. everything is better in the GT500.
thats why it costs more.
if you really want bang for the buck, get a Terminator.

I'm just trying to get educated on the actual "measureable" differences between a GT 500 5.4L and a 5.0L especially in engine construction. Specifics aren't easy to come by! Most people speak in hard to verify generalities. The one thing I am hearing is that many believe there is a big advantage in the 5.4L if you are wanting to exceed the 540 HP of a supercharged 5.0L & go towards 700 HP. That certainly makes sense! I guess the question I'm wondering about is comparing the 5.4L to a supercharged 5.0L ... if you stay at the 540/550 HP range?
I understand that & I'm really not trying to offend any Shelby owners!

It seems you are fixated on the engine only. Reality is that if you put 540 HP through the stock 6 speed on the GT and you abuse it at all (or maybe even not) you WILL blow the tranny up. Since you voided your warranty with the supercharger, you are buying a new transmission and unless it is beefed up or a different tranny, you WILL be repeating the non-warranty tranny repair again.
If for no other reason, the trans on the GT500 is clearly worth the extra money.... Why? Because you are talking the same HP if you go GT500 or GT with Roush blower...... BUT, you are also talking one with a warranty of ALL parts and the other with NO warranty of drivetrain, engine, transmission, axle, etc......
Think about that.
I love my car as I have it setup today, but hindsight being 2020, I would have gone GT500 knowing then what I know today. Just sayin'

A Roush supercharger does not make your warranty void unless abuse or racing is proven. Court precedents place the burden on the manufacturer to show the supercharger damaged the engine. Don't listen to local Ford geniuses especially if they can't sell Ford performance packages! They are sour lemons that can't sell speed equipment so they try to scare you out of it & get you to buy from their stock! I had one manager even tell me a CAI would ruin the car... because they couldn't sell one! I do agree the GT 500 Clutch/Trans is a stronger way to go, especially if you are going to 700 HP! The only thing I've noticed not cutting it in my car is the stock clutch. It has some slight slippage under WOT take offs, but otherwise it works fine!
I suspect my choice will have something to do whether I can find a dealer that will let me order a Shelby without trying to hold me up on the price! The ones around me act like their is a shortage of Shelbys so full list price is a great gift! I don't want another $6K or more of options I'll never use loaded on the car to increase markup %! I wish you could still order cars equipped as you wish instead of choosing from packages put together "for their benefit"! If you let a dealer trade a car for you, you will usually pay a higher price because the first dealer will keep the "holdback money"!
My 4.6L is running like a top with no downside with the Roush Supercharger. Of course I'm only running 467 HP at a fairly low PSI.

there are a few SC's that will maintain your factory warranty, the Roush TVS is not one of them.
the M90 is, so is whipple non-IC. if installed by Ford.
i agree with cheftjpeck, he's going to get the Coyote 5.0 no matter what.
funny how he's in the Shelby section arguing that a GT is better.
