Default Goodyear F1 Supercar G2 vs Michelin Pilot super sport

Well... i just replaced my F1's with the PSS ... it got rid of the "hum" i was experiencing...

But for anybody interested, there is a very noticeable difference in the responsiveness. I don't race or do track days, but from an average joe's point of view, the F1's are far more confidence inspiring. It's like the PSS take a second to respond as you're diving into a corner. Just jerk the steering wheel left to right going down the road and you will immediately notice the difference. What i thought was a very stiff suspension (with the SVT Performance Package) owed a lot to those tires...

Having said that, i intend to drive the car year around in NC and the F1's are said to be very bad in temps udner 50. Also, to me... the PSSs are still awesome, a bit quieter i think, and provide a more gentle ride on the street... and to me have insane grip in the wet...

I did the same swap about a month ago. I dont normally take turns very hard so i havent noticed the same things you have but in a straight line the car is so much better to drive. Under hard acceleration is far more predictable and even forgiving at times if you overstep the conditions. You are right about the temp effecting the Goodyears, when i had them on last winter on the stock set up i could barely back out of a parking spot without slippage from one side or the other. That was far more noticable since i have LCAs and PHB with steel joins. Also, under hard accel in cool temps the goodyears just gave up and let the car do whatever it wanted. Even at highway speed i could break traction on the goodyears.

I have pilot super sports in 255/40/19 and 295/30/20 with my new rims 19x9 and 20x10.5 and am happy with them. Havent tried the f1 supercar's, but compared to stock p zero nero's in 245 45 (i have a 5.0 not gt500), these are insanely better.

Were both sets of tires the same size for you? also what size were they? Also how long did they last in mileage?

It sounds like your tires got sloppy. You may want to check your tire pressure. If your tire pressure is low (lower than your F1s) or if you get tires that are too wide for the wheel the handling will get very sloppy as you lose a lot of sidewall support.

I have been looking at the Michelin Pilot SS as well. I have a 2010 GT and its running the original 19" Pirelli. Driving daily on old Route 66 that has a ton of ruts and the Pirelli tracks into the ruts, plus at 30K miles they need replacing. Conservative driver, totally stock, mostly dry weather. MPSS a good way to go or...?

BTW - I'm a new member here. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

I was happy with BFG KDWS 2's on my 2010GT. The Pirelli's are notorius for tracking like mad and needing replacement very early.

I ended up buying the Bridgestone Potenza SO4's. They rated #2 on Tire Rack just below the Pilot SS, so i went with them. They were about $200 cheaper at the time and i believe comprable. Otherwise, i would have went with the Michelins.
