Default Power Steering Pump?

My brother-in-law’s ’07 GT500 has a bad power steering pump. At idle, turning the steering wheel takes a lot of effort but its fine if I rev it to 2k. Anyway, so we went to AutoZone to pick up a new pump and the one they have listed is the wrong pump. The pump on his car mounts to the motor/head via three bolts. The one they had had 4 holes to mount the pump to the side of something. I figured it was the pump for a regular GT mustang. O’Reilly’s and CarQuest had the same pump. So where do you guys pick up new pumps for your GT500’s? Thanks...

try the dealer, it will be right the first time, because they look up parts using the VIN

As jwog666 mentioned, you should check with your Ford Dealer, petrock. You can start by checking on our [url=http://www.fordparts.com/]Ford Parts[\url] site with his VIN. This may also help.

Dealer wants $275. Thats a bit pricey for a power steering pump. Any other ideas? Thanks...

not to be snarky, but if he can afford a GT500, then he should be able to deal with the price of an OEM power steering pump.

Considering that an ‘07 GT500 is around the same price as a ’15 Mustang V6 (around $20k) according to Kelly Blue Book, yeah its a bit snarky. Not to mention that he inherited it from his fathers estate when he passed away last year. But that is besides the point...

Huh - I've been thinking my pump might be bad too. I bought a warranty from the CU when I refied so maybe I'll exercise my rights and have them swap one in :P Did that fix your problem with the swap?

Yes, replacing the pump fixed the problem. The car turns nice and smooth now with little effort. Good luck getting your’s fixed.

I found my warranty and I put a zero deductible on it, so I just need to get it in and its a gratis fix!
