rev restriction
ok was out in my Saleen last sunday, took someone for a ride but it wouldn't rev above 4.5k in 3rd or 4th! water temp was normal and the car had been left idling for 5-10mins before the drive, someone mentioned it could have a fail safe on the engine the same as Honda has to protect its engines, in such that the car will not rev above a certain point until the oil temp is correct, went back out for another drive from the pub and this time no problems at all, has anyone heard/had this or was it just a fluke or something?
That is not normal. The 3.5k-4k rev limiter is only if you're sitting out of gear and try to do that. It keeps you from free spinning your engine into oblivion. Haven't heard of that happening while driving in gear, especially 3rd or 4th hot or cold. Could just be a saleen thing built into their tunes. No stock mustang that I know of does that.

Ninja......how much time did you spend in the Pub and what were you drinking
?

?
Actually this is quite normal on the new drive by wire cars, by chance did you happen to do a fast 1st to 2nd or 2nd 3rd shift? Or get on the car just after start up? The drive by wire has many fail safes that under certain instances think the engine is running away and not correct for the throttle pedal angle and speed, a fast shift and to quick to the clutch while still having some throttle applied is usually the biggest culprit. this will clear itself with either swithing the key off and restarting, or just with normal driving fora few minutes this is a bigger problem on the 05s then the later cars as the stratagy in the computer was changed to help this and not have as much sensitivity, however you can make any of the year cars do it if you really try.
