Why I bought from Saleen instead of a dealer
Doubtless there are many good and fair Saleen dealers out there. The real reason I bought directly from Saleen was that the only Nevada dealers are in Las Vegas and Elko, both a long way off. Besides, I want to see their Irvine store.
The closest dealer to me is Future Ford in Roseville, California...about 120 miles from where I live in Reno. So I drove the Evo up there this weekend (there's also a really good comic shop in the area...) to check 'em out, 'cause they're the ones who will be performing any needed warranty or Saleen-specific work.
I have to say, it's the most impressive Ford dealership I've ever seen in terms of the number of interesting cars they had. Several Saleens, including a PJ; three or four Roushes (supercharged and non), a Panoz Esperante, Shelbys in both GT and GT500 guises, and not one but TWO Ford GTs! As well as a beautiful early-60s Mustang notchback in the showroom.
OK, that's the good part...the sales people were sharklike; they kept trying to sell me even after I had explained that I'd ordered my car months ago and was picking it up in two weeks. Finally when I broke away I was able to check out some of their prices.
Holy freaking Jesus. At age 50, after nearly 20 cars, I thought I'd seen it all. These guys give "rape" a new defintion:
* Shelby GT500: MSRP $48,000; dealer price $129,000.
* Shelbt GT: MSRP $32,000; dealer price $90,000
* Ford GT (heritage paint) MSRP $177,000; dealer price $299,000
* Saleen PJ: MSRP $60,000; dealer price $75,000 (almost seems reasonable next to their other prices!)
Didn't check the Roush prices.
I can just imagine the kind of markup they'd try to make on a car like the on I ordered.
Did any of you guys have to bargain down from a huge dealer markup when you got your cars?

I work at Autowest Dodge in the Roseville auto mall as a salesman and yea, future fords prices are basically to rape anyone dumb enough to buy them. I dont know if you saw him when you came down but for the past few weeks every weekend there is a guy driving around in a red ford ranger the auto mall till about 4 with a huge sign in the bed of his truck saying "DONT BUY FROM FUTURE FORD, ASK ME WHY." He just installed a loud speaker on his truck this weekend and its f***ing hilarious. So maybe its not the best Ford dealership to buy from lol
I bought my 07 Saleen SC from an authorized Saleen Dealer, but it was not locatedanywhere near an money town like Reno. The sticker was $64,200.00, I paid $56,800 delivered to my door. Not too shabby I think.
Yeah their are only two official Saleen dealers by me and that is in Blauvelt, NY and in Hackensack, NJ. I bought my Saleen S281 in Hackensack, because I wanted the same one in Blauvelt and they wanted $5,000 over list, I went to Hackensack and paid a nickel over cost. So I made out llike a bandit, luckily my father is in the Transmission business he has many friends in the dealerships and always gets a fair deal, except for that Ford dealer, but they kill everyone, and nowthey are out of business and merged into a dealer in New City, Schultz Ford.

I paid retail, but it's been worth it: the level of service and support I've received from Jim Cross there has been truly stellar.
