Default What would you do.....

OK so I have this 97 Speedster I bought with what looks to be a spun bearing.

Should I rebuild it or replace it with a wrecking yard engine.

Is the block numbered in these cars?? I know it is in the old stuff and make the value quite a bit more if original.

Money is not a HUGE deal but just not sure if I will keep it long term

Thoughts??Ideas??

I think you would be better served to repair the engine you have. If it is numbered, you will keep original and can put exactly what you want into it and know you have a good engine whendone. You CAN'T say that about a used motor.

There are no special #s on the engine/block to match it to the car or Saleen.. These are just run of the mill GT engines and drivetrains in these cars.

i would pull it, have it bored and stroked for a couple K, sleeve it even maybe, throw some diamond forged pistons, forged crank rods ect. and build it. Throw a 2.8 kenne bell and call it a day. pump out 5 or 6 hundred RWHP and be happy. IMO

i thought all cars had matching numbers? .... even early model vettes and whatnot are checked on stage of barret jackson to see if the motor numbers match the vin.

I thought matching numbers simply meant that all the information from the VIN # checked out with what was on the car (e.g. motor, transmission, etc...)

Matchingnumbers means a car in which the engine and transmission are marked with the same sequence number (partial VIN code) as the chassis. Ifthe parts & numbers match, they were installed at the time the car was built, and the car can then be confirmed as original. Some parts have onlya date code, which to be correct need to be dated before the car's assembly date.

Some people define numbers matching as "similar to componentsoriginally installed," not necessarily *the* original components. To me this isincorrect, but then again lots of people call a repainted car"all original" as long as the repaint is in the same color.I guess the best betalways is to make sure you and whoever you are talking to have the same definitions.
