so are they in an exact place or what?

I mean on 99-04's...are they in a precise area? Or just guestimate?

ORIGINAL: sowaxeman

Just got my 05 S281 back from the dealer after fixing a couple paint flaws on both front and rear bumpers. Bad news it will need to go back because they didn't get the rear bumper right, but thats another story and going to wait for winter time now - sick of being without my car!

My question is regarding the ID number on the bumper - they failed to put it back on, and when they went to stick in on with me there they were nowhere close to where it should have gone, so I told them to give me the decals and I would do it myself!!! I know where it goes basically, but my two questions are this:

Should this decal be under the clearcoat?? I thought it was but they claim not.

And, is there an EXACT measurement spec on where it goes or is it just a general approximation?? It looks to me that it goes about 1" behind the lip of the front bumper and centered with the headlight. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah - we got off topic, and never did get an answer to the decal question. I ended up putting mine on based on a photo, but I have an extra decal of my number - so would sill like to know if there is an exact spec on WHERE it is placed?

I emailed Saleen and never hear back from them.

It is not an exact science.

From the Saleen Club of America Event Image Gallery:

Mike is correct. It was an exact science with ALL fox body cars and the 94-98's where you can also line it up with the headlamp though. The right edge of the number lined up with the line between the headlamp and corner. They had stencils for the 99-04 cars, but when one of the usual suspects were not at work, they went on a little different.

To bring this thread back into focus, will I have to contact Saleen for new bumper number decals or is there now an aftermarket place for them?

There are a couple of places on ebay that try to copy the number....some are pretty terrible.

Regarding Jason's question.....the numbers are above the clearcoat, not below it....so you're good.

Yeah, they are definitely not under the clearcoat. I looked at several different 05+ Saleens at a show, and they seem to be in a specific area, but not an exact science. I have seen some from the factory that are not perfectly aligned.
