awesome thanks for the write up! I'm about to change the tranny fluid on my 09, Redline MTL is magic stuff! I want to get some good stuff in the diff from day one too, get the most out of it. kinda a bummer there's not just a drain hole but I guess it's not a bad idea to inspect everything inside when you change the fluid.

candymanjl- I have heard nothing but good things about Redline lubricants, but let me tell you I changed my tranny fluid out a few weeks back to Royal Purple Synchromax and love it. The tranny temp has gone down, it's quieter and smoother shifts are awesome.

As far as the drain plug, I don't know what Ford was thinking .

 

well I already got the MTL for the fluid change but I've heard good things about Royal Purple stuff too. maybe next time I'll try the Royal Purple and see if I notice a difference between the two. my last car was an S2000 and that tranny was smoother out of the gate than my mustang and the S got even better after the MTL. the MTL has been awesome on my last two cars and my buddy's last three cars, night and day difference on every car.

drain plug would be nice, the S2000 had one and that made the diff fluid change fairly easy.

 

Let me know your thoughts after the change.

 

Thanks for the write up. When is recommended that we do this? Every x miles or x months.

 

^ The Haynes manual recommends every 60,000 miles or 48 months.

 

that's not bad, on the S2000 it was recommended every 20,000 miles. but that was an independent rear and known to not be very strong.
