Why do the V6's ONLY have 210hp?
Don't get me wrong please, I realized that the other post was blowing up, I'm not saying the V6 is a weak car or anything of the like. I'm just curious if anybody can figure out why Ford made a 4.0L with only 210hp? This also isn't a Import vs. Domestic thing but obviously theres plenty V6's out there smaller and making much more power. 3.5L Nissan 290hp, or less tuned 240hp. I would assume the torque on the 3.5L Nissan engine and the 4.0L Ford will be about the same but the Nissan still has more horsepower, why? Gas mileage doesn't seem to make sense? Sound might, but it sounds like a weak excuse. Is it strictly the competition with it's big brother?
I'm looking for more logical business oriented reasons why the V6 was made to be a 4.0L with low horsepower rating in comparison to it's competitions V6's. Also the Chevy V6's what are their horsepower ratings (NA not the Supercharged V6)?

Ford made the V-6 with only 210 HP because they thought people would not buy the GT if they had a V-6 with almost the same power. All you need on the New V-6 to beet an 99-04 GT is a cold air intake and maybe an exhaust

Why do the ONLY have 210hp?
haha
Some people are never happy!
My $42,000 BMW 325ci Convertible 6 banger only has 190HP!
Don't complain... just add nitro and a turbocharger!

I think the 4.0 V6 is an older engine they used in the Ford Ranger. I don't know how old, but my friend's Ranger has a 4.0 in it and it's like a 2000 model. Remember it's all about making this car affordable AND better than previous Mustangs. They've accomplished this so don't complain. Also, HP is just one factor in acceleration. I'm much more interested in 0-60 or 0-30 times than HP, cuz that tells me how many G's this car will pull.

who cares about the v6 lol
who cares about the v6 lol
I think Ford did that just because some people might want the look of a mustang, but not an overwhelming amount of HP. Think about it, old ladies driving around in 300HP 6 bangers? Would not be a good thing, they'd kill someone with all that power.
I think it might help them keep the price down in a way, that way they sell more 6ers. The 6ers really keep the stang alive on sales, because they definitely don't sell nearly as many GTS as 6ers.

1. CAFE Gotta combat the gas guzzlers
2. Engine availabilty The 4.6 is also a F150 engine, the 3.0 is in the Taurus/500
3. Insurance Gotta make it affordable for young drivers
4. Cost Gotta be competitive with GM and the Imports
5. Cost Small displacement + high hp means more costly engine components

ford probably doesn't want to spend money on modifying an engine to squeeze as much juice as possible out of it. it's so much easier to get a big engine that works and just drop it in and call it a day. that way you don't have to spend forever trying to make a new v6 engine setup. or something... i'm talkin out of my ****, but that sounds right to me.

RE: Why do the V6's ONLY have 210hp?
It's an economy engine - Gas and cost to build. All that HP stuff in the 4.6 is expensive to produce.
I do believe the V6 has a lot of potential though:
Almost 4" bore with a 3.3" stroke 60 deg V6
This should be a good high winding engine.
The V6 210 HP rating is only at 5300 rpms and torque at 3500 rpms, Depending on heads, I havent seen them yet, I would think that good valve springs and new cams should really wake up the top end. I think with a around $1,000 - 1,500 in mods, even the V8 crowd would be impressed.
I know there are other things that make a GT, I would like the 8.8 31 spline axle (I will get one once a few GT get wrapped around some trees) and a V6 will never be a V8, but with that said I wouldn't underestimate what this V6 may do.

#1) The v6 mustang is cheaper than any other V6 (especialy import) out there except for maybe some of the GMs.
#2) They wanted a roughly $20K car to sell because, well...it sells.
#3) Looking historicaly at the Mustang, the v6 has always outsold the GT (since '94) roughtly 3 to 1. Could be price, could be cost of ownership, could be price range the GT reaches into competes with Imports at it's price range (25-30K)
#4) The current 4.0L is an existing platform that required little to no rework for the 05 model. I believe it's the same engine used in the Exloder (AKA Explorer) SUV. Thus, less money to make a whole new model if the heart is already existing.
GM - Pontiac new G6 has 200HP and 220TQ runs about 20-22K basic. don't know of any other GM on the market worth even mentioning right now in the V6 group (Flame suit on) I SAID V6 GROUP. I know some fool is going to mention the GTO..it's a V8 [8D]
