In truth, if the new 5.0 will be a DOHC motor only......I may a bit disappointed. This will mean either the GT won't be getting the new motor........or, if it does.......the GT will get significantly more expensive.

I'd rather keep the GT a sub-30K car, and keep the pricier "Coyote" for the next Mach 1 or Boss. Now, of course......if they CAN deliver a Coyote powered GT at or under 30K, that'd be a horse of a different color. But....this is Ford we're talking about here.

First of all, I don't think the standard GT would get 4V heads, however, how nice it would be to buy a car that's already fast! Maybe add a CAI, custom tune and, a louder muffler, that's it.

Ford is at a point of make or break, if they blow the next stang (or any car at this point), they're pretty much done. I wouldn't be surprised to see them put a 5.0L 4V motor in the next GT to lure people into showrooms.

Eh, I would expect just the opposite. The mustang, especially the GT and GT500 make up a very small percent of the volume of Ford's sales numbers. To save money and try to stay in the green why wouuld Ford sink a ton of money into a more powerful Mustang? Bragging rights w/ the fan base to beat out GM and Dodge? Ford is much more solid financially then either of them, I would think a much bigger goal would be to stay afloat and not go bankrupt (GM) or get bought out (Crysler.) If anything they should just sink money into an IRS to please the base Mustang owner (v6s make up somewhere around 80% of the sales) to make it competative w/ the other cars in it's market share.
Dont' get me wrong I would love more power, I just don't see it in the near future for Ford.

I linked my front page article to this discussion rather than making a new one...

I dont know what Ford is going to do, but I dont forsee the GT still 'only' having 300 horsepower.

+1

If they don't keep a baseline v8 mustang below 30k, (which might be impossible with the 4v motor) then ford will sink. Lets hope they throw in a 5.0L and keep it under 30k. Then you'll see some sales.

I think even if they didnt respond to camaro and challenger they'll still end up on top financially, at the end of the day. And that's what matters to the big guys the most. $$$$
