Default High volume oil pump

I'm planning on adding an oil cooler with a thermostat adapter. Since I'm going to tear a bit into the engine I figured it would be a good time to upgrade the oil pump for track days. Which is the best oil pump for the 4.6 3V? I see Melling, Ford racing, Livernois, etc.

Cost is an issue but I don't want something that will crap out on me to save a few bucks.

TSS probably makes the best and I think there is one more that makes the billet gear version.

The GT500 pumps are the same pump with different pressure relief valves iirc. So they flow a little more at a higher rate.

So the 5.4 and 4.6 use the same oil pumps?

the 2013 gt500 uses a billet backplate that doesnt flex near as much as the stock one you have. just an extra bit of insurance I felt was good

I went ahead and ordered the GT500 oil pump. How complicated is the install? Am I looking at taking off the whole front of the engine to get to it? I just replaced the water pump and just put water in, since I figured I was going to have to drain the system to get to the oil pump anyways.

You can leave the water pump in, pull the timing cover, valve covers, you may need to remove the upper hose to get room to work in.

pull the timing chains, remove pump, replace with upgraded pieces, re-time and re-install other bits
