Default Steering column gaskets and seals

I pulled my steering column as part of repainting my engine bay and I'm about to reinstall everything but have a couple of questions that I hope you guys can help me with.

I bought the gasket kit, http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/Mus...66-Mustang.axd and in the description it says the round firewall-to-steering column seal goes on the engine compartment side but in my car it is currently installed in the interior (under the dash) side. Which is correct? I've seen pictures of it both ways.

Second question: I undestand that the steering column passes through the gasket (which will stretch to make a good seal) but the gromet goes on the passenger side of the firewall. Does the gromet also push through the gasket or just rest up against it?

Thanks!
