96 Fuel Pump Questions
Hello all,
I am new to this site but I figured since I've been having my first stang for a few months now that this would be a good place to see some good advice. I received my 96 GT on a trade back in July and when I first got it the guy made it sound like it was the next best thing to sliced bread. He mentioned that it has all forged internals, a 72mm throttle body, it is bored .40 over and has "some head work" done, not to mention a tacky 400 HP sticker on the front quarter panels. Now being somewhat mechanically inclined I knew he was telling tall tales about some mods such as a stock throttle body. Now I want to start to build the car up the right way and I was thinking about new injectors. I know the car comes stock wit 19lbs but what is the highest I can go with a stock fuel pump setup?

Really can't use larger squirters until you have mods that require them, such as a power adder basically. If you had cams at a minimum I'd say that some 24# injectors may be beneficial, but that's about it.
Hopefully the guy didn't know what he was talking about with the .040" thing. Due to cylinder wall thickness (or lack thereof) it is generally advisable not to go more than .020" on these engines. As far as "head work" I think the best assumption there is that they were cleaned up and rebuilt, not ported & polished (because basically nobody does that with NPI heads).
I wouldn't worry about fuel at this time, you are quite likely already where you need to be as far as that goes. Stock 19's are good for now and so is the pump. If you were to do a PI swap + cams I would definitely step up to 21# at a minimum, maybe 24#, and even then the stock pump would still be within its capabilities.

Thanks. At this point I seriously doubt that the car has any major internal work done or that it makes 435HP to the wheel as he stated when he got it "dyno'd" . I mean, why do all those mods and you still have the stock shift along with other stock components. He even had on the OEM intake.

He wrote .40". That's almost 7/16 inch. The .020" amount you mention is just a light "scrape"......bit over 1/64th. of an inch. So, now I'm confused. There is a one-place digit misconception here, but I know nothing else.
